Leaf Pick-Up

Curbside leaf collection will begin Monday, November 7.  Residents who receive City-provided refuse/recycling service are eligible for the leaf pick-up.  Leaf pickup crews will begin working in Ward 3, followed by Ward 4, Ward 1 and Ward 2.  Pickup is by ward NOT by refuse/recycling collection day.  Several passes of the City will be made.    Leaves should be placed loose (not in bags) at the curb.  Do not place branches in with leaves as it will not be collected.  Do not rake leaves into the street. This is very important for public safety.  During periods of rain, leaves in the street are more prone to block the drainage system causing flooding and other concerns.  Placing leaves in the street is a violation of the City’s Storm Water Management Policy.  Even when leaves are dry, they are still a safety hazard when placed in the street, as warm exhaust systems from vehicles can cause the leaves to catch fire.   Residents may also want to consider using a recycling mower to return shredded leaves to their yards.  Grass clippings and finely chopped leaves add vital nutrients and organic matter to the lawn, thus improving lawn health.  Bowling Green residents may take leaves to the drop-off site located behind the Public Works garage on Tarragon Drive (off East Poe Road).  Note that brush and branches are not accepted at the drop-off site.   The City provides tracking of the leaf crews on its web site at www.bghio.org.  An announcement will be made prior to the final pass through the City.  Call Public Works with questions – 419-354-6227.

Conneaut Ave. Water Main Line Replacement

The Water Distribution Division has announced that the water main line located along Conneaut Ave. from Wintergarden Rd. to Mitchell Rd. requires replacement. The current water main, along with service connections, is becoming unserviceable, requiring numerous repairs annually.  The preliminary work along Conneaut has begun.

During this project, traffic restrictions from Wintergarden to Mitchell will occur. Once service line connections begin, boil orders will be issued; this may include customers east of Wintergarden.  Affected property owners will be notified before any boil order is implemented.

On Thursday, November 3 from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm, Conneaut Avenue from Mitchell to Beech St. will be closed to through traffic – this closure will last through Friday, November 4.  Cedar Lane, from Conneaut to Dogwood, will also be closed during this timeframe. For more information please contact BG’s Arborist, Grant Jones, at 419-353-4101 or email him at arborist@bgohio.org.  This seminar will take the place of the Tree Commission’s regularly scheduled meeting in November.
