The Business & Finance Division of the Special Libraries Association (SLA) proudly announces the winners of the thirteenth annual Centers of Excellence Awards: In the Management Category, the ResearchNetwork of Computer Science Corporation and in the Service Category, Bain’s Global Information Services, Bain & Company.

Management Category

The Information Resources Center of CEB is being recognized in the Management Category for the excellence the judges saw in their strategic, developmental, and planning processes that organization has in place. In addition, they employ leading practices and innovation in the field, particularly with knowledge transfer and news service. Their importance shows in their contributions to customer retention and the overall corporate program.

Service Category

The Global Information Services at Bain & Company is being recognized in the Service Category for their emphasis on superior research support at every level that focuses on client outcomes. The judges commented on the service model of embedded information researchers on consulting teams and the extensive training that the researchers receive. It is clear that the Global Information Services relates directly to Bain’s business practices and priorities, enriching the corporation as a result.

The SLA Business & Finance Division’s Center of Excellence Awards serves to recognize quality as a priority for the successful management and delivery of information. The awards take their inspiration from the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Awards, which are given annually to U.S. organizations to recognize and promote quality as a critical part of innovation and competitiveness. The Center of Excellence Awards, like the Baldrige Award, recognize customer-focused service, technology and leadership efforts in the framework of an organization dedicated to the gathering, analysis and dissemination of information.

The Center of Excellence Awards will be officially presented at the 2014 SLA Conference in Vancouver, BC. The presentation of the awards will occur on Sunday, 8 June 2014, at 7:30PM at the SLA Business & Finance Division Awards Ceremony & Reception.

Background

The awards serve to recognize the best of “best practices” in three categories: Technology, Service, and Management. Any member of SLA can apply for consideration in any of the three categories and all entries are evaluated by a panel of judges who are members of the Business & Finance Division. The award winners represent excellence and quality at their highest levels, and in previous years have included such outstanding organizations as the Science, Industry & Business Library of the New York Public Library; the J. Hugh Jackson Library, Graduate School of Business, Stanford University; National Geographic Society’s Libraries and Information Services; Verizon Information Research Network and Stephen D. Cutler Center for Investments and Finance, Horn Library, Babson College.
