This evening I’m going to be at the fourth annual Centennial Secondary School Show ‘N’ Shine and look forward to seeing many of my old classmates and some new faces with cool rides.

I’ve still got the original student parking lot sticker on our Healey, as I often drove it to school back in the day.

Possibly cooler than the Healey is a 1967 Shelby GT350 that one student got to drive back then and has now restored it completely.

During my school days at Centennial it was only Grade 11 and 12 so that meant plenty of students of age to drive cars. Now it’s Grade 9 to 12 and as students can’t drive until they are 17 now, the student parking lot doesn’t get the use it once did — except for car shows.

However, due to construction this year’s show is actually taking place across the street from the student parking lot.

After catching up with old school mates and making some new friends, I’m driving up to Ashcroft for the Langley Loafers Old time Drags that run today through to Sunday.

Last weekend, I got to the Lynn Valley Days show, the Sockeye Run in Steveston and the Model A Sunday in Fort Langley that had recently been opened up to all cars prior to ’32. I arrived early and watched the arrival of many cool cars, but the pink roadster Pickup driven by a young lady was awesome and made me think this must have been the “Farrah

Fawcett Mustang II” of the radio generation! There was also a 1929 Whippet, made in Canada by Willys-Overland.

So, no matter if you are in the mood to watch a race, see a car show, buy some old parts or drive over some cones … this weekend has it all.

And take a kid with you!
