Could it be? Could the dulcet tones of Jon Hamm be suffering from a malady so severe that it requires surgery? Heavens, no! Say it isn’t so!
I actually heard the rumblings of rumors about this whole “Jon Hamm throat surgery” thing yesterday; I wasn’t sure whether there was actually any truth to them, though (my sources were, shall we say, less than reliable), so I held off on releasing it out into the blogosphere. Jon’s rep, however, confirmed it to People, so yep—it’s true. The actor apparently has a polyp in his throat (so THAT’S why he sounded so raspy at the Emmys on Sunday!), so he’s undergoing a routine outpatient procedure to have it removed.

Although the rep didn’t specify exactly where in Jon’s throat the polyp is located, I’m working under the assumption that it’s a vocal cord one. It’s a pretty common condition for people who use their voices a lot; actors and singers tend to be especially prone to them, so I’d be willing to bet that a vocal cord polyp what Jon has going on right now.
Meanwhile, Mad Men seems to be following the recent trend of splitting the final season of a hit show into two parts. According to the LA Times, AMC announced last week that the seventh and final season of Mad Men will air in two seven-episode halves; the first half, called “The Beginning,” will air in spring 2014, while the second, “The End of an Era,” will hit the small screen a whole year later. Why? Maybe it’s to make it a little easier for us to say goodbye to Don Draper. Who knows.
