I can’t say that I’ve ever had the strong desire to wear a dirndl. Not even for Oktoberfest, which to be honest doesn’t actually sound that fun to me (I love beer, but I hate crowds, sooooo… yeah, not so much). But if I were going to make an exception for both dirndl-wearing AND Oktoberfest, maybe I’d make it for this. Maybe.
This hilarious sketch comes to us from everyone’s favorite oddball designer, Karl Lagerfeld. Karl, you see, has created what WWD is calling a “Bavarian-flavored capsule collection” (Bavarian-flavored doesn’t actually do much for me; if it was Bavarian CREAM-flavored, however…) for his new Munich concept store, which is slated to open this September. This crazy-looking dirndl is part of it, taking the traditional bodice, blouse, full skirt, and apron and giving them a high fashion, punk rock makeover. I like to think that this dirndl-wearing diva is the St. Pauli Girl’s younger, edgier sister. Y’know, the one who likes to blast The Clash in the wee hours of the morning while experimenting with new and exciting ways to wear black eyeliner, because why the heck not.

The capsule collection will make its debut just in time for the 180th edition of Oktoberfest; it will be available in Karl’s just-opened Berlin store as well as the Munich store for which it was designed. I can’t tell you how much it would set you back, but suffice to say that it’s probably a lot. A LOT a lot.
