NORTH NEWTON, KAN. – Bethel College Athletic Director Kent Allshouse has announced the resignation of Chad Schilling, head volleyball coach and sports information director, effective Dec. 31.
Schilling just finished his 7th year at the helm of the volleyball program. During his tenure, the Threshers compiled an overall record of 136-93, 85-40 in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference.
In 2008, the team won the program’s 18th KCAC championship and ninth tournament championship to advance to the opening round of the NAIA volleyball championships. Schilling was named KCAC Coach of the Year twice in 2006 and 2008.
“This was a difficult decision for me to make,” Schilling said, “but it was one that I felt was best for the program and for me personally. I will be forever grateful to those that gave me the opportunity to be a part of the athletic department, volleyball program and the Bethel community as a whole.”
Schilling has also served as sports information director and assistant athletic director for the past seven years.
Schilling, a 1996 Bethel College gradate, began his coaching career as a student assistant under former Bethel head volleyball coach Bev Mayer and served as her assistant for 11 years. During Schilling’s time with the volleyball program, the Threshers have won six KCAC championships.
“Chad was the first person I met at Bethel during my interview here,” Allshouse said, “and he has been a fantastic friend and co-worker since I arrived. He has been a reliable, hard-working employee that I have leaned upon many times.
“Come January, Chad may no longer be a Bethel College athletic department employee, but he will always be a member of the Thresher family.”
