In the U.S., we focus on campus sexual assault, public sexual harassment, and violence/discrimination against women in pop culture.

THE POSITION

We are seeking a Communications Manager, based in our New York City office, who will work with our communications and program teams to implement Breakthrough’s program plan, strategy, and vision. She or he will support this work in the U.S. as well as be part of the global communications team.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Digital/Social media

Manage development and maintenance of http://www.us.breakthrough.tv, along with Breakthrough’s other web properties

Manage website analytics and content strategy

Manage editorial calendar for email outreach, social media campaigns, and web content

Manage implementation of email outreach and grow email list and open rates

Develop and implement social media strategy, including daily analytics, on Tumblr, Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, Flickr, along with new or additional platforms as needed

Develop and implement new online strategies and platforms, consistent with Breakthrough goals and industry best practices

Manage Google AdWords grant

Create and implement ad campaigns on Twitter and Facebook

Communications

Provide general communications support, including workflow and project management, press and public relations

Manage content and publishing of Breakthrough-generated collateral and print publications, including the annual report

Maintain internal communications wiki and brand wiki

Track Breakthrough mentions and issues in the press

Liaise with and support communications activities for the office of the president

Help develop, track, and meet communications (and social media) benchmarks

Graphics and design

Design and produce graphics for the organization

Create graphic memes for email outreach, Facebook, campaigns

Design and create postcards or other assets for projects or programs

Develop and manage publication templates.

Manage designers and consultants

Staffing

Support staff in use of new media tools

Manage communications and/or program interns as needed

Liase and collaborate with India staff as needed

KEY COMPETENCIES / SKILLS NEEDED FOR POSITION

Creative, strategic, quick-thinking

Sustained project strategy and management

3-5 years experience in digital media, social media, design, video

Proficient in: iWork Suite, HTML, CSS, CMS, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, Google Apps, SEO

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Experience managing relational databases/CRM

Experience using media, arts, tech, gaming, and/or pop culture to increase public interest in a social issue

Self-starter who works well both collaboratively as part of a team and independently

Hyper-organized, detail oriented, driven by deadlines and deliverables

Sense of humor, energy for challenges, passion for innovation within the field of social change

Strong interpersonal skills
