Well... On my VM with Windows 2000, Windows Update (and Microsoft Update) are working. Here are some screenshots and a list of installed programs and updates (Note: some of them are unofficial):

Also Windows 2000 can run even Office 2007 and you could get Office 2010 to install, but it will crash the VM. I hope this message was helpful.
