Spring break is the perfect time to recharge your batteries. I like to do that with plenty of sunshine, good food and tasty refreshments. All of that can be found on any of the charming Greek islands in the Aegean Sea, but my friends took me to Samos. It turned out to be a perfect choice!
Samos is one of the most beautiful islands of Greece in the east Aegean. It is very close to Turkey, only separated by the 1.5km wide Mycale Strait. Samos is my favorite Greek island, not in the least because it is the birthplace of the famous Greek philosopher and mathematician Pythagoras. Eureka!

Being an island, one of its main attractions is obviously the sea. The amazing blue water seems surreal at times. On Samos, I found some of the most beautiful secluded beaches I have ever seen.

Besides Samos City, there are a few other villages that still possess that small town charm. Small streets, cobblestones, steep hills and what seemed like a million churches scattered everywhere. Climbing those tiny streets easily makes you understand why there is so little traffic: there is simply no way for a car to pass through.

Our first night on Samos we went looking for a bar to have a drink. Wandering the small streets, we stumbled upon what we thought was a local cafe, so we entered. The only people there was a group of local old fishermen, having food and drinks. They kind of looked surprised when we entered, but they were very welcoming. We had a great time and lots of laughs. When we asked for the bill they said we should pay the next day. We kept going back there every day and we never paid anything, it was always tomorrow. On the last day of our stay, they told us it wasn’t a bar at all and that we had been spending all those nights in one of their houses! How is that for hospitality!
