In the past decade or so, Seoul, the highly urbanized capital city of South Korea, has rapidly become one of the top tourist destinations in Asia, owing largely to the massive popularity of the hallyu (Korean Wave), or the proliferation of South Korean culture through its pop music, television dramas, films, and technology, among other aspects. But of course, Seoul has a lot more to offer aside from those. Behind all the glitz, glamour, and modernity is a city steeped in culture and history that spans more than 2,000 years. Despite its rapid growth, Seoul remains one of the most popular cultural hubs in Asia with its well-preserved palaces, parks, buildings, monuments, and other architectural sights.

In the Seoul metropolitan area alone are four UNESCO World Heritage Sites, namely the Changdeok Palace, Hwaseong Fortress, Jognmyo Shrine, and the Royal Tombs of the Joseon Dynasty. Other must-visit places include the hip neighborhoods of Myeongdong, Dongdaemun, Insadong, and Gangnam; the banks of the Han River; Cheonggyecheon Stream; Seoul Arts Center; Gyeongbokgung Palace; the statues of Admiral Yi Sun-sin and King Sejong the Great; the Namsan Seoul Tower; Lotte World; and many, many more.

To get you acquainted with this charming city, we have below some lomographs taken by our community members during their Seoul sojourns! If you want to see more, you can also check out all the photos taken in Seoul and uploaded to the community here!
