Here is Jack Gaughan's news story on Mourinho's press conference just now..

Jose Mourinho began his Manchester United reign by stating that he believes the club has been too limp since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement.

The Portuguese was officially unveiled as Louis van Gaal's successor on Tuesday morning and wasted no time in suggesting United had lost sight of their stature.

Mourinho wants to win the Premier League title and rejected the notion that qualifying for the Champions League next season would represent success.

End of press conference

And with that, the first press conference comes to a close.

Some interesting points there from Mourinho - they won't just be aiming for fourth place this season, but to win some silverware.

He says he has nothing to lose despite his acrimonious departure from Chelsea last December.

He says the club had four transfer targets at the start of the summer and they have now signed three of them.

Mourinho defended his record of bringing through players from the academies of the clubs he has worked at - produces a list of 49 players.

He says Alex Ferguson advised him to bring an umbrella and his best bottle of wine.

Giggs left under his own accord, it was nothing to do with him.

Mourinho on Rooney

In football there are many jobs on the field. I think the one that is more difficult to find is the guy that puts the ball in the net. Players change their characteristics during the years and it is normal that a player at that age changes a little bit.

But there is something you will never change and that is the natural appetite to put the ball in the net.

So maybe he is not a striker anymore, a No 9, but with me he is never a No 6, playing 50 metres from the goal. He will be a 9, a 10, a nine and a half. But not 6, not even 8.

11:22

What advice did Alex Ferguson give you?

Bring the umbrella and yesterday I couldn't believe it was raining at the training ground. It was great advice.

The second one was to bring my typical bottle of wine because now we will have many occasions to be together.

He will always be welcome to the training ground and we will have a lot of time to share a lot of our personal stuff. His opinion is an important opinion for me.

11:21

Mourinho on Giggs

Mourinho says that is Ryan Giggs comes back during his time at the club, he will welcome him back. He wishes him 'good luck'

11:17

Mourinho defends academy record

Mourinho asked about his record in bringing through young players from academies. He produces a prepared list and says there are 49 players on it. He even offers to read them out.

'On lie, repeated many times... but always a lie...'

He touches on Ryan Giggs leaving the club, saying it is not his responsibility or fault that he has left the club. 'The club wanted to give him any important job in the club, he made the decision. A decision when you need to be brave.'

11:15

Mourinho asked about City and Pep Guardiola

20 teams can win the title... it doesn't make sense at all to focus on one team and I will not be doing that. I am the manager of the biggest club in the UK... so I'm going to focus on ourselves.

11:12

Mourinho: We had four targets, we have three

We made the nucleus of four priorities, four positions. To give a certain balance to the squad, a certain push in terms of quality. The quality I need and want.

Especially the ones with more vision. I am more a manager that likes specialists and not so much the multi-functional players because I am very clear in my model of players.

Multi-functional players are one or two because when you are in trouble, you need one or two guys who can fill. But basically I want specialists.

We decided four targets. From these targets, we have three. Until we don't have the fourth, we are still working hard. Myself and the structure.

When we have the fourth, I will breathe.

11:09

Mourinho: The menu has to change for better, not worse

When people have year after year a certain type of menu, the menu has to change for better not worse.

For United fans, for many years, success was just routine. In the last three years, I want to forget.

I don't want the players to think we need to do better. What is to do better? Finish fourth. Finishing fourth is not the aim. This is what I do with myself.

11:07

Mourinho: I have nothing to prove

There are some manager who won the title 10 years ago, some have not won a title ever. the last time I won the title was one year ago. So if I have something to prove, imagine the others.

That was not important to me. I play against myself. I feel I have to prove not to the others, but I have to prove to myself.

I will never be able to work without success. That is my nature, I have always to find the reasons why I have always many questions towards myself.

11:05

Mourinho: I want everything

I want everything. I want to win matches, I want to play well. I want to score goals, I don't wan to concede goals. I want everything. Of course, we are not going to get everything. But we want to.

11:04

Mourinho: 'We want to win'

I was never very good at hiding behind words and philosophies, I never tried to be good at that. I was always much more aggressive in my approach with the risks that can bring. Be easy, even honest and pragmatic to focus on the three years and focus on the fact we didn't quality for the Champions League and so on.

Let's work and let's try to be back in the Champions League and top four and do well in the Europa League. I am not good on that, I prefer to be more aggressive and to be aggressive is to say: 'we want to win.'

You can win a short competition, a couple of matches, without playing well. But you cannot win competitions without playing well.

11:02

Mourinho: Man United is a Champions League club

I am where I want to be. I want to be in this club, in this country, in the Premier League and in the domestic cups. I feel a bit frustrated that I am not playing Champions League. I do not hide I chase Sir Alex's records in the Champions League.

Hopefully it is only one season we are not there. Man United is a Champions League club and we have to make sure that July 2017, instead of waiting for the Europa League draw, we have to make sure this club is where it needs to be.

10:59

Mourinho: 'It doesn't make me nervous'

It doesn't make me nervous. It comes at the right moment of my career. I arrive at a club that is difficult to describe. It's not a dream job, it's reality. It's a job everyone wants. It's not one everyone gets to have and I have it.

I know the responsibility and at the same time I know the legacy. I know the history of this club. I know what the fans expect from me.

As we speak, Mourinho is posing with a United home shirt and then a red scarf on the pitch at Old Trafford. He is wearing a black club tracksuit though he doesn't look too happy to be there! The cameramen are clicking away...

10:47

15 minutes until Mourinho is unveiled...

Not too much longer to wait now until we hear from Jose Mourinho as Manchester United manager.

There are a couple of dozen fans outside Old Trafford waiting to see if they can catch a glimpse of the new manager.

And considerably more journalists and reporters crammed inside the Europa Suite inside.

10:31

What will Mourinho's killer line be this time?

Jack Gaughan: Find it hard to believe that Mourinho won't throw up a semi-controversial line when he arrives here in half-an-hour.

He's renowned for making some sort of statement during his first press conferences and may well want attention directed this way given all eyes have been on his old mucker Guardiola up the road.

We are ready to go...
