After his show in Montreal, Cam’ron made his way to his next performance in Toronto at the Danforth Music Hall. Local artist, Juvi Dizzle was chosen as the opening act to kick things off. The crowd was still coming in and much of the audience wasn’t expecting an opening act to begin with, but with sheer determination and his charisma, the Toronto artist won the audience over.
The way that Dizzle conducted himself throughout his performance was profession and honest; at times, he would playfully call out the audience for ‘sleeping’ on him, being tired and asked the audience to use his performance to energize themselves for the main act. With his honesty and blunt approach, the audience’s spirits grew as their heads started nodding and their hands raised in the air moving along with his songs. Throughout his show, Juvi Dizzle’s performed various tracks about the street life, the ladies and poppin’ bottles with his crew, “The Champagne Gang.” His machine-gun flow complimented his style and voice. If his performance told me anything, it is that he is determined, motivated and hungry’- ready for the next level.
Next up was the main event. With a few minor delays to the start of his performance, Cam’ron wasted no time and got the ball rolling. The crowd got right into it as he performed “Wet Wipes,” off his famed album, Killa Season back in ’06. He continued to perform hits such as ”Certified Gangsta” and his Kanye West-produced single “Down & Out.” With the crowd rocking along with every word of his songs, he went along to perform other hits like “Oh Boy” and “Murda Musik”, which brought out the best in the crowd.
One thing you realize right away is his personality. The Harlem-World rapper’s care-free and forthright attitude will have you grinning and laughing – whether he called out the fact that one of his songs was ‘working’ for the fans and told his DJ to skip it, or when a female fan threw her undergarments on stage, he called out the fact that that it was “very necessary,” for that fan to get to the stage immediately for something a ‘little more’. Not only does Cam’ron know to perform, but he really knows how to have fun with his fans – which is a great trait to have as musician and entertainer. As time winded down, he concluded his performance with more recent songs such as “Salute” and the Just Blaze-produced track, “Dipshits.”
Even though the venue cut his performance short due to the timing delays, the performance felt just right. Cam’ron didn’t over-perform nor did he under-perform. He did many fan-favorite songs, shared in some laughs with the audience, showed love to his fans by giving high-fives and handshakes through his show. You could see that his years of experience performing at various venues across the world have helped him iron out what really works of him; he made sure the fans walked away with an experience and the satisfaction of wanting little more but knowing they got was just enough.
Lately, Cam’ron has been quite busy with recent involvement in fashion with Mark McNairy, his collaborative music project with the other members of the Diplomats, his collaborative EP with DJ/Producer A-Trak, and his monthly EP release called, First Of The Month. Even though he has established himself as a driving body of the music industry, he is always looking for a way to become bigger and better. With all the projects he has planned for this year, he still has the energy, drive and skill to put on a show leaving fans content and anticipating the next time the leader of the Diplomats returns back to Toronto.
