Who loves game dev?! One thing is for sure… Focal Press sure does!

March 17 – 21, 2014, the Focal Press animation & gaming crew made the trek from Boston to San Francisco to exhibit at GDC 2014, alongside our friends at CRC Press.

We were amazed by the fantastic exhibitors, inspiring attendees, beautiful city… and did we mention warm weather?!

Here are some of the highlights from the trip…

We offered attendees a 20% discount at the booth on all Focal Press & CRC Press books. Couldn’t make it?! Don’t worry we are offering at 15% show discount until April 21, 2014. Use discount code 14C11 when ordering directly through www.focalpress.com and www.crcpress.com. Time is running out!

Our books arrived safely… and looked quite nice in the exhibition hall, if we do say so ourselves. Some of our new gaming books included… Vintage Game Consoles, The Essential Guide to Game Audio, Unity 4 Fundamentals, Games as a Service, iOS Programming with Cocos and Xcode, and Production Pipeline Fundamentals.

We were excited to feature our new book, Games as a Service, by the wonderfully talented Oscar Clark!

Oscar Clark even held a session at GDC about the freemium game market and how to make better and sustainable games. He was joined by his friends and colleagues: Tadhg Kelly, Free-to-Play Advisor at Ouya; Imre Jele, Creative-At-Large at Bossa Studios; Griffen Parry, CEO at Gamesparks; Peter Warman, CEO NewZoo.

Our new book, The Essential Guide to Game Audio was featured at the IAsig Mixer. Two lucky attendees won a copy!

We were happy to be involved in a photo opp with the authors and contributors of the book at Pyramind Studios. On count of three… 1, 2, 3, say “Game Audio!”

And, finally… a little more from one of our favorite cities…

With the flags sailing, I think we had a successful GDC! Thank you to our authors and everyone who stopped by our booth and made the event so memorable!

Until next time,

Your Friends from Focal Press
