Every year many people from all over the world celebrate the festival called Fête de la Musique. On the first official day of summer, the 21st of June, many bands, artists and DJs are playing for free on the streets of large cities around the world. Obviously Berlin is also participating so this weekend you can enjoy different music-styles all around the city.
Fête de la Musique
The name might already give you an impression: Fête de la Musique is originally from France. The festival was grounded in Paris in 1982 and has grown to a worldwide phenomenon. Now, more than 30 years after the first edition of the festival, 520 different cities are participating. Not less than 41 of these 520 cities are situated in Germany and 297 are situated in Europe. In all these cities different artists celebrate music by performing for free and expressing their love for music and the summer.Red Bull stage in Berlin in 2012 (© Red Bull/Dirk Mathesius)

Berlin has not been participating in the Fête de la Musique since the beginning of the event. The first edition of the Fest der Musik in the capital of Germany was organized in 1995. It was a great success and now the Berliners are looking forward for this festivals for weeks in advance. The programm of the festival shows that there are more than 100 different clubs and locations who are participating in this years festival. Because all the performances are for free you can create your perfect festival-day: Just study the programm and choose the locations and music-styles you like most. Rosi’s, Tresor and Cassiopeia
As mentioned above, many clubs in Berlin are cooperating in the Fête de la Musique festival of 2014. On the long list you can find clubs like Badehaus, Cassiopeia, Rosi’s, Tresor and also some public locations like the Mauerpark. Personally I would advice to switch between different locations as much as possible. One of my favourite locations is the open-air in the garden of the Rosi’s. You will find Electro, Indie and HipHop there and the open-air will take place from 16.00 till 21.00. Then everybody obviously wants to see the match of Germany against Ghana (WorldCup 2014).
More information about Fête de la Musique can be found on this website or on the facebook-site of Fete de La Musique. The festival will start around 16.00 and most open-airs will end before midnight. But off course you can find some interesting parties in one of the clubs in Berlin after midnight. In the evening the atmosphere gets even better (© tip-berlin.de)
