If there’s anyone
qualified to judge the funniest script of all time, the Writers Guild
of America should be pretty well-placed.

As such, it’s just
revealed the winner, as voted for by its members.

And it’s Woody Allen’s
benchmark ‘Annie Hall’ which has landed in the top stop, penned by
the director himself and Marshall Brickman, who also co-wrote
classics like 'Manhattan’ and 'Sleeper’ with Allen.

Making up the rest of
the top five are Billy Wilder’s 'Some Like It Hot’ in at number two,
'Danny Rubin and Harold Ramis’s 'Groundhog Day’ at number three,
James Abrahams, David Zucker & Jerry Zucker’s 'Airplane!’ at
number four and Larry Gelbart and Murray Schisgal’s 'Tootsie’ at
number five.

Also appearing in the
top 10 are Mel Brooks’ 'Young Frankenstein’ and 'Blazing Saddles’,
'Dr Strangelove’, 'Monty Python and the Holy Grail’ and 'National
Lampoon’s Animal House’.

Aptly, 'This Is Spinal
Tap’ took the number 11 slot.

The bulk of the movies
making up the top 101 list were written before the turn of the
millennium, with only 'Bridesmaids’, released in 2011, worrying the
top 20.
