March is a wonderful, action packed month of festivals and celebrations - Mothers day to Easter  - things that bring families and friends together all ages can enjoy. We've looked all over Britain for things to do but with so much on offer it is impossible to feature everything.  So here are just a few of our family friendly favourites including the first EVER Belle & Boo art exhibition - perfect for Easter holiday fun.



World Book Day - Worldwide, March 3rd



If your child is taking part in World Book Day you might be stuck for costume ideas and we all know how stressful that can be! But do not despair visit the World Book Day website here where there are several costume ideas from the easy including Elmer, The Cat In The Hat, Angelina Ballerina and Gangsta Granny to the more time consuming costumes like a crayon from The Days The Crayons Quit or The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

Visit Activity Village for some more ideas as well as some free printable masks including  a fox mask perfect for children who want to dress up as Mr or Mrs Fox.

Snowdrop Planting For Mothers Day - Bath

Prior Park Landscape Gardens near Bath have a charming mothers day idea for all the family to enjoy.  Mum's can work with the gardeners to replant beautiful snowdrops to help spread the flowers across the gardens. Afterwards head to the cafe for some tea and cake and relax.

Mothers Day at The World of Beatrix Potter - Lake District

This year is the 150th anniversary of Beatrix Potter and there are lots of events happening around the beautiful Lake District throughout the year to celebrate. On Mothers Day, Mummy's get in free to  The World Of Beatrix Potter and every child can plant a flower to take home too.

Cakes & Crafts In A Castle For Mothers Day - Kent

Stunning Hever Castle in Kent was Anne Boleyn's birth place and has tons to see and do.  But we couldn't resist the idea of a sumptuous tea with homemade raspberry lemonade, cakes and sandwiches (must be pre-booked) . What's more children can spend some time making and crafting a flower pot to give to Mummy and there is also a cupcake decorating workshop. A fabulous day out.

Travel Back In Time For A Mothers Day Treat - Cheshire

Always worth a visit Tatton Park  in Cheshire is a magnificent stately home in 1,000 acres of beautiful deer park. On Sunday 6th March there is a very special tour of the staterooms and servants quarters followed by a wonderful high tea.  Go back in time to 1909 and see what life was like for the servants at Tatton Park, hosted by the head butler and housekeeper who will also serve the high tea. A fun, unique and memorable treat for Mums and their families.

Shakespeare Week - Across the country

Shakespeare Week is an annual celebration of Shakespeare designed to introduce primary school children to his work.  As well as the opportunity for schools to get involved lots of events are taking place across the country which families can enjoy.  The beautiful Leeds Castle in Kent will be hosting a week long Shakespeare Quest for kids, Warwick Castle will be offerings all ages a quiz trail,  Plymouth Museum are hosting a day of colouring activities and the chance to meet the Bard himself.  Whilst Libraries up and down the country are offering a whole range of fun Shakespeare inspired free activities. The first EVER Belle & Boo Exhibition and Easter Craft - Cumbria

We are delighted and excited to announce the first ever Belle & Boo art exhibition.  We've joined forces with the wonderful Rheged Centre in Cumbria to show some of our most beloved and treasured illustrations by Mandy Sutcliffe who creates Belle & Boo and their enchanting picture book world.

Visit Belle & Boo's secret garden to see the exhibition and whilst there children can enjoy colouring in and a fun Easter egg trail.

Jazz it up in Bristol

Bristol is renowned for it's music scene and launched just four years ago the Jazz and Blues Festival is now firmly on the international map of music.  It maybe jazz focused but it is designed for all music lovers with films, workshops, gigs as well as free concerts all scheduled in for the weekend. On Saturday afternoon take the family along to a very special  celebration of Frank Sinitra's100th birthday with a chorus of 350. Another highlight for all the family is Gary Crosby's Groundation - which promises to get your all on your feet. Take little ones along to get a taste of live music and see their eyes light up and watch them dancing.

For grown-ups Friday night is all about the Big Swing. A retro party with wonderful live music. Dress up in your finest forties gear and dance the night away.

Egg Rolling Down Devil's Dyke, Near Brighton

Egg rolling is an Easter tradition that is quietly disappearing but take the weekend to visit the captivating Devils Dyke and you can also enjoy rolling an egg of two.   From Saturday 26th March to Monday 28th there is also a Cadbury Easter Egg hunt and on Monday the is an egg rolling competition is held, the winner is the egg that goes the furthest.  Once the Easter fun has finished take the time to enjoy the views and remember to take a kite as it is a perfect the spot to fly a kite.

A Tudor Easter - West Sussex

The Weald and Downland Museum in West Sussex (near Chichester) is a unique collection of more than 50 historic buildings, some over 600 years old, saved from being demolished or falling down.  It includes workers cottages, a watermill and even a church.  It is also home to traditional Sussex animals.  Over the Easter weekend there will be Easter cooking in the Tudor kitchen, a bonnet parade and the chance to meet the new spring lambs.

Easter Egg Hunts On A Nature Reserve - Middlesborough

Saltholme is a huge wetland near Middlesborough funded by the RSPB and a wonderful place to go to unwind and get back to nature.   Over the Easter weekend, families can enjoy an Easter egg hunt, bonnet making and an egg and spoon race before taking the time to explore this beautiful nature reserve.  As well as the pools filled with birds and wildlife,  there is a fantastic adventure playground,  a walled garden and a cafe selling delicious treats.

Spring Festival At A Watermill, Leeds

Thwaites Mill is one of the last working watermills in Britain and an important piece of British history.  Visitors can see take a tour of the mill, the managers Georgian home and the engineers workshop. And although just outside Leeds it sits in a peaceful riverside location perfect for walking and having a picnic.   On March 27th Thwaites will be celebrating the arrival of Spring with face painting, a bouncy castle and a visit from the Easter Bunny.

Make A Tractor - Coventry

The Coventry Transport Museum houses the UK's largest collection of motor vehicles and has a brand new tractor exhibition.  To celebrate it's opening the museum is inviting families to make their own tractors out of recycled cards and materials.  And whilst you are there you might want to take part in a workshop where kids are shown how to harness the electrifying power of vegetables!!!!
