The Pomeranian version of puberty is called the puppy uglies, did you know about those? I didn’t until I adopted Biba, basically they shed all their precious puppy hair to make room for their famously poofy adult coat. As you can see Biba is indeed in the midst of her uglies this month, she looks so scrawny, but obviously, I would never tell her that. And quite appopriately, my sympathy pains for her have surfaced in my wardrobe, it seems I’ve been subconsciously throwing this shawl on almost everyday, despite it not being quite cold enough outside for wool. I’ll wear it to dash out for a coffee, biba will nestle inside of it and nap. I’ll shove it on top of my underwear as I scurry to the front door to sign for UPS packages. Over the weekend, I fell asleep wrapped up in it on my sofa. Or like here, flung and tucked into flares with flat boots and a hat over my messy hair. I always used to find the likes of shrugs or ponchos to be quite frumpy, but at 27, I have wholeheartedly embraced any and all clothing that resembles a blanket. In fact these sorts of garments are essentially the same as concealer, capable of covering up a variety of sins – like a too wrinked shirt or the laziness of nothing but a bra underneath. So why, oh why did I for so long refuse to embrace these great big wools and cashmeres that feel more like bedding than clothing? It seems foolish now, I truly skipped out on so much comfort. But I fully intend on making them a staple this autumn/winter – and up next perhaps? The pursuit of a hat that feels like a pillow, thus completing this bedtime-daytime look I am very keen to perfect.
