Otter Brewery has raised well over £2,500 for The Royal British Legion as part of their ongoing annual support for the Poppy Appeal.

The total was reached through wet sales of Poppy Otter – a specially created winter beer sold in West Country pubs throughout November and December. Punch Taverns who were among those selling the beer made an additional contribution.

Otter is currently celebrating it’s 25th anniversary year as a family run Devon brewery and also supports a number of other local charities including Hospiscare, Devon Air Ambulance and The Exeter Foundation, raising a total of £7,500 for these three during 2015.

Across bars in Devon, Dorset and Somerset, every time a pint of Poppy Otter was poured the brewery pledged to donate 5p straight to charity. The cheque for £2,639.20 was presented earlier today to The Royal British Legion’s Dartmoor Chairman Anthony Howard who was accompanied by his wife to the brewery and also Sargent Mike Amor from the Army Careers Office.

Patrick McCaig commented: “A big thank you once again to all our drinkers who did their bit during our silver anniversary year in helping the Poppy Appeal continue the great work they do. We’ve now proudly supported this charity for the last seven years and share a very close personal affinity with the values they hold dear. A special mention should be given to Punch Taverns and their generosity with an additional contribution to the final amount.”

Community Fundraiser for Devon Carol Arnold said: “Otter already do a lot of fundraising for other charities and communities that they care about and we feel privileged to be one of them. We can do something really significant with this donation and look forward to developing our continued association with them in the future.”

About Otter Brewery:

Otter Brewery was established by David and Mary Ann McCaig in 1990. A brewing heritage goes back several generations on both sides of the family and green thoughts run through every aspect of production.

The business now employs 35 and supplies 1,000+ pubs across the South West of England.

The brewery’s underground eco cellar uses the earth’s natural core temperature to chill 5,000 casks of beer and saves over 6½ tonnes of CO2 emissions per annum. The core range includes Otter Ale, Otter Bitter, Otter Amber, Otter Bright, Otter Head, Otter Claus for Christmas and Tarka Lager – Devon’s first pure lager, made from four natural ingredients.
