Jini Beauty is an Asian skincare subscription that typically offers 1-3 full-size products and 2-3 deluxe samples.  When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to choose your skin type from the following categories: Oily/Acne Prone, Dry/Mature, Normal/Combination, and Sensitive/Troubled.  One thing I want to mention that I love about this subscription: they usually curate their boxes well so you won’t have a giant backlog of unused products.  For example, if they send you a full-size serum (which has happened!), they won’t send you another full-size serum for a while so you get a chance to use up the first one.  I appreciate that because I cycle through a couple different variations for each step in my skincare routine, so it takes me more than one month to burn through a product.

Jini Beauty – Sensitive/Troubled Skin

This is a review of the Sensitive/Troubled box.  My skin tends to be pretty dry (especially around my mouth and chin) and can get red and flaky.  I’m always looking for products that are deeply moisturizing, but without irritating chemicals.  Good to know: all of the products this month were full size!!

SKINFOOD Egg White Peel-Off Nose Pack x2 – $0.70 each

SKINFOOD Egg White Nose Cool Down Pack x2 – $0.85 each

First of all, I love that they included two of each of these products.  Sometimes it takes more than one try to really get a feel for whether or not something works!  I’m pretty addicted to pore strips in general – there’s something so weirdly therapeutic about ripping gunk out of your pores and seeing all of the evidence (I can’t be the only one, right!?).  These contain albumen from egg whites to exfoliate skin and tighten pores.  The pore strips were decent: while not the best that I’ve tried, they still got the job done and unclogged my nose pores.  The cool down strips, though, were *amazing*.  Pulling pore strips off your nose can hurt and leave it tingly and red, which is where these strips come in.  They’re a cushion-y hydrogel that gently adheres to your face and provides a soothing cooling sensation to calm your nose.  They also contain albumin to continue tightening your now-clean pores.  I might buy a pack of these alone just to use with any pore strip!

RE:CIPE Golden Snail 3D Mask – $3.55

*Note: I went straight to the Re:cipe site to check the price on this one.  It looks like they normally run for $3.55 each in a pack of 20, but they’re currently on sale for $0.57 each in a pack of 20.  Keep in mind though, I don’t think the official site ships internationally, and the entire site is in Korean.

Jini Beauty tends to include a lot of snail products; I think I’ve gotten at least one in every box so far!  It’s a very “in” product in Asian skincare right now, so no surprise.  Snail mucus products can also be quite expensive, so a subscription box is a great way to try it out before you commit the money$.  Anyway, I’d heard a lot about these “3D” masks, which are basically just sheet masks with loops that go around your ears to prevent the mask from sliding around your face.  According to the product literature in the box, this mask is “soaked with the equivalent of one bottle of golden snail essence, plus ginseng extracts.”  It does have an herbal scent to it, and it left my face feeling moisturized and soft the next day.  I like that the mask itself is big (it covered my whole face and even some of my neck, and didn’t leave giant gaps around the nose and mouth like some sheet masks can), and made of a stiffer material so it doesn’t lose shape as I wear it.  I didn’t have to lie down for this one either since the ear loops kept it in place.  Another bonus: the mask didn’t come out of the package super drippy, but it didn’t dry out on me either.  I find most masks tend to be one or the other, so this was a nice balance.  Overall it felt like a high quality mask.

A’PIEU Fresh Mate Tea Tree Sleeping Mask (Calming) – $8.87

This was a gel mask that you apply overnight to cool and soothe your skin.  You can also use it as a 10-minute spot treatment for acne.  I tend to have red, dry skin, so I was eager to test this one out overnight.  It’s a little sticky upon application, but it absorbs into your skin pretty well.  That tacky feeling doesn’t fully go away, but it wasn’t so bad that I felt like it would transfer to sheets or pillowcases.  It had a fresh clean scent that also went away after a few minutes.  When I woke up the next morning, it had completely absorbed into my skin and there really wasn’t anything to wash off.  While it didn’t do too much for hydration, I do think it’s actually calmed my redness down significantly.  This is a great inclusion for a summer box, as a gel mask doesn’t feel as heavy as a cream one but still delivers soothing moisture.  Plus I think it would be perfect after a day in the sun, to soothe or heal sunburned skin.

Etude House Missing U Hand Cream in Panda (Peach) – $5.90

LOOK AT THIS CUTE LITTLE GUY!  This panda is so adorably rotund.  And he’s holding a little peach. :3  Etude House (they always have the cutest packaging) produced this hand cream as part of the Missing U project “to raise awareness and protect endangered animals.”  Jini Beauty had two variations: Panda (peach scent) and Pink Dolphin (peony scent).  TBH I would have been pretty thrilled with either.  This hand cream doesn’t smell like any variation of peach that I’ve smelled before: neither the fruit nor that Asian-peach-candy smell.  I’m not sure how I would describe it, actually.  It’s kind of like if they made dryer sheets with a peach flower scent.  It smells cleanly floral and not overpowering at all.  It absorbs into your hands quickly and leaves them soft but not greasy.

Innisfree The Minimum Sun Cream for Sensitive Skin – $10.00

As a fair-skinned person, I absolutely have to wear sun screen every day.  Of all the anti-aging products out there, the only one that is 100% proven to work on preventing wrinkles is sunscreen.  It’s good for beauty and it’s also so important for your skin’s health.  So I was pretty psyched to see a sun cream made for sensitive skin.  But sadly, that’s about where my excitement ends.  SPF 25 is definitely not enough sun screen.  Even my makeup has more SPF than that (I try to hit at least SPF 30).  That said, it’s not a bad sun cream.  A little goes a long way – use too much and you risk getting a whitish cast.  It’s very light and doesn’t have any sunscreen smell.  It doesn’t dry out or irritate my skin, as it’s “hypoallergenic, non-irritating, and contains 98% natural ingredients.”  I’ll probably use it when I’m having a no-makeup day and just running errands with limited sun exposure.  I really like that it’s natural and light, I just wish it had a little more protection.

Overall

This was a great box!  Everything was full-size, and even if you don’t consider sheet masks or pore strips to be full-size, the mask was high quality and there were four pore strips!  Jini Beauty also puts a lot of thought and research into their boxes: everything here was definitely well-suited for sensitive skin and none of it made me break out.  The value of the box exceeds the price of the subscription, and there were no filler items or tiny foil packs, so I’m happy!
