Amidst the concrete jungle of Canary Wharf there is a retreat, somewhere you can leave the stress and strains of daily life behind for pure relaxation and calm. I’m talking about the Re:SPA situated in the mall on Canada Square inside the infamous Reebok Sports Club.
The Spa
There’s an array of treatments on offer which doesn’t limit itself to beauty, being part of a gym it makes sense to offer physiotherapy and Podiatry. The gym is situated on the same level but is separate from the spa so you don’t see or hear much of the action. On the other side of the reception is a stunning restaurant again out of hearing distance but a good place to eat after a pamper session.
The spa reception is bright and welcoming with modern accents and friendly staff who take you to a private waiting area as your therapist prepares for your arrival.
The Treatment
Amongst the large selection of treatments I opted for the Guinot Hydradermie 2 facial. This treatment has proved its worth as it hasn’t changed or needed improving since the 70s! Guinot is a respected skincare brand and one I’ve heard lots about.
The treatment begins with cleansing the skin to remove any makeup and creams, a second cleanse is delivered before the skin is exfoliated with a delicate scrub. I’m not a fan of the kernal exfoliators but this was fairly delicate on the skin.
Afterwards you are given relaxing facial massage providing lymphatic drainage of any toxins in the skin.
After nearly nodding off a lavender eye mask was placed on the eyes before the therapist got in close for extraction, this is a process for removing the blackheads if you have any around the center panel. Once these impurities have been withdrawn the high frequency stage can begin. The special Guinot machine provides high frequency which is swept over the face using metal massaging rollers to provide an antibacterial and healing process. You can hear the sound of the current which may feel worrying to begin with but it’s pain free.
After the high frequency massage a mask is placed onto the skin, the eyes are then covered as you sink into the bed for the neck, shoulder and arm massage. If the facial itself wasn’t enough this was pure bliss, after 2 days of carrying the largest suitcase around London I was knotted up and slightly tense. Thankfully this helped relieve all the muscle aches and helped me sleep well that night

It’s now over a week since the treatment and I’m highly impressed! Nayle told me to expect to see results after 4 days and she was absolutely right. My skin looked dewy and glowing immediately after the facial but it’s not been until this week that I’ve seen the most improvement. My cheeks aren’t red, the scars from relatively new blemishes had faded and pores aren’t as visible. The most noticeable difference is the glow and no further blemishes since the treatment. My skin looks healthier than ever and I’ve looked into salons in Newcastle who do the facial.
