How long have you been a blogger?

Just under three years for BeautybyBritanie.com, although I have been blogging in some form since I was 16 years old on various websites throughout the years like LiveJournal and other writing platforms. I have always had a passion for sharing my experiences and connecting with people. I have a book in the works right now with a publisher that I’ve been working on since January of 2014! It will be out in 2015. Can’t say anymore than that right now ;)

How important to you is skincare and why?

Natural Beauty is created and nurtured from the inside~out. So following a nutritious healthy diet is#1. Skincare is #2. You have to BE healthy inside to have your skin look radiant on the outside. It won’t matter how much time and money you spend on skincare and makeup products if you’re not properly taking care of yourself. You must make sure to get enough sleep, exercise, practice positive thinking, drink lots of water and make self care a non-negotiable. Otherwise it’s almost impossible to have a glowing complexion!

What are your favourite brands and why?

~CV Skinlabs: Britta Aragon has created the most effective, healing and soothing formulations for face and body. My favorite product is the Calming Moisture for Face, Neck & Body. The products are suited for those with chemical sensitivities, compromised skin and conditions like eczema and chronic dry skin. This truly is: Beauty and safety without compromise. My skin feels so soft and renewed when I use this daily… although I use all four of the products from her line every day, religiously.

~May Lindstrom Skin: May Lindstrom has created one of the most luxurious skincare lines I’ve ever experienced! She has taken the somewhat mundane chore of daily caring for skin and elevated it to an entire new level of self-pampering with her euphoric self care ritual. There is nothing on the market like her gourmand epicurean products. I use The Honey Mud for a weekly skin treatment. The scent is otherworldly with cocoa absolute oil, ylang-ylang and other aromatic power packed ingredients. This lush and velveteen union of raw honey and white Halloysite clay has a pudding-like texture. It can be used for cleansing or for a skin treatment. I apply to my cleansed face and leave on for 30 minutes and follow with a warm rinse. The benefit after using this is that my skin feels nourished and as soft as a fresh rose petal. It sounds crazy, but with any of May’s products you can just “feel” her love and energy infused. It’s that special.

~Pai Skin Care: Pai Skin Care products are formulated with sensitive and allergy prone skin in mind. They have carefully select ingredients with remedial and skin soothing properties and are formulated without irritating chemicals and alcohol. I especially love their Camellia & Rose Gentle Hydrating Cleanser for my sensitive and super reactive skin.

~R.L. Linden & Co.: Thousand Petal Beautifying Mist. From the first whiff of this masterful blend I was hooked. I couldn’t believe the scent. It was like heaven in a bottle. And it felt so amazing on my face. Abundant with beautifying flowers, this mist tones and hydrates so perfectly. As an added bonus there are aromatherapy and anti-anxiety benefits. Handmade in Colorado this is my absolute favorite mist. Robin & Lynn have over 30 years of combined experience in creating all natural skincare, bath and body products and teas. I actually use this mist as a perfume and spray it all over my hair. It’s indescribable, really. I love every product I have tried from their line and almost always become addicted to whatever they make!

~Laurel Whole Plant Organics: Laurel has lovingly handcrafted a flower and herb based facial care line. Based on purity, integrity, farm sourced ingredients, handcrafted and made with love. One of my favorite products from the line is The Healing Balm. It is magical and can benefit any skin type, especially the extremely sensitive. With Calendula, Comfrey, Lavender, Yarrow, Marshmallow and Self Heal this blend calms inflammation. And the sweet herbal blended scent of Lavender, Lemon Balm and Helichrsum in so beneficial to soothing the face and body. I love this product line and Laurel.

What are your best home-made skincare treatments and recipes?

My favorite is this very simple two ingredient DIY Facial Mask: I use this 1-2 X per week. I mix a tablespoon of Raw or Manuka Honey with a 1/2 teaspoon of fresh tumeric powder. Apply to the face and leave on for approx. 20 minutes. Wash off with warm water. You will find this treatment will clear acne and help to prevent it as well. It will also lighten any discolorations and is highly moisturizing.

Another very simple at home treatment for the skin is to mix together a tablespoon of Raw or Manuka Honey, 1 teaspoon of Nutmeg powder and 1/2 teaspoon of Vitam in E oil. Mix all ingredients together until it’s a thick paste. Apply mixture all over your face, focusing on problematic areas. Leave mixture on for 20-60 minutes. Rinse off with lukewarm water. You can also lightly massage this mixture in circular motions on your face before rinsing off to promote extra exfoliation. Be extra careful to pat your face dry with a soft towel! This is my favorite mask for eczema, Rosacea or very sensitive skin types. It can help clear up severe irritations and also helps acne-prone skin as well.

How much does your skincare regime add up to per month? (Obvs you can get some freebies from being a blogger, but can you work out how much it would cost to buy everything)

Yes, I’m very lucky being a beauty blogger because I get to try out and test so many wonderful brands. My monthly cost would be approx. $200 per month for the products that are the “must haves” in my beauty arsenal.

What are some expert tips and techniques you have learned to put together your routine?

I have learned many tips and tricks along the way. One of my favorites is to use a Beautyblender or dampened sponge of some sort to apply makeup. It really makes a world of a difference in how your makeup applies and how natural it looks. I also went on a “no eyebrow plucking” journey after blogging. This combined with other things I do to keep my eyebrows thick, has made my eyebrows grow so much within the past few years. Also another huge tip: always use an eyelash curler. Even if you think you don’t need to.

What product would you never be without?

Every product from the CV Skinlabs line because it has saved my skin and continues to save it from harsh weather, eczema, dermatitis, irritation, sensitivities, allergies, redness, everything. I also can’t be without my R.L. Linden & Co. 1000 Petal Beautifying Mist! Never….

What would you never allow near your skin?

Any product containing Parabens, Sulfates, Formaldehyde, or Petroleum.

Can you tell me briefly about how you do everything in your lifestyle as naturally/organically as possible?

I believe that your body is your temple and a reflection of the way you treat it. I’m always conscious trying to eat as organic and natural as possible. I’m a fan of Farmer’s Markets and love to eat seasonally for the freshest most nutrient packed foods.I stay away from packaged and processed foods.

I’m very careful of the skincare and makeup I use because what goes on my skin get’s absorbed. So I use only natural and organic beauty products including: shampoo, toothpaste, soaps, etc.

I clean my home and clothing using only all natural products. I’m a huge fan of essential oils and make my own cleaning spray by adding 2 teaspoons of of Tea Tree oil & two cups of water to a sprayer bottle (shake to mix) for an anti-bacterial and anti-fungal counter spray. Essential Oils are a huge staple in my life. I’m a fan of Yoga and Meditation and devote an hour per day to my practice. It’s my time to de-stress my body, renew my mind and unplug from the busyness of the world.

My goal is to do many small steps each day that ultimately add up. I turn off excess lights. I recycle and re-use. I skip blow drying my hair during the week. I don’t leave the water running when I brush my teeth. I visit my local Library. I walk as much as possible. I unplug all appliances that are not being used. I mostly cook my meals at home. My goal is to live more simply and to actively do my best everyday to make the planet a bit better for the next generation.

Can you recommend any ASOS skincare products that we could include on this?

Yes of course. There are quite a few of my favorite brands online at ASOS. I’m impressed! And there a few new brands I will have to explore now that I read about them on your site! Here are my favorites: Yes To Cucumbers Face Mask, Yes To Cucumbers Calming Moisturizer, REN Rose Trio, REN Sensitive Gift Set, REN Vita Mineral Lip Balm, Korres Mild Cleansing Gel. Korres Pomegranate Toner, Korres Rosy Glow, Korres Wild Rose Eye Cream.

Are you a fan of ASOS.com? Every item I’ve purchases has been incredible. I adore their fashion expertise and when I go on the site…it’s hours before I’m done looking at everything. Have you spotted any of your fav products?

xoxo,

Britanie
