Kelowna RCMP arrested 24-year old Calgary man, youth released to care of Ministry of Children and Family Development

Kelowna RCMP charged Calgary man with possession of stolen property.

Kelowna RCMP report officers have arrested a 24-year old Calgary man who was found drinking inside a pickup truck with a 15-year old missing Calgary teen on Sunday.

Cst. Jesse O’Donaghey of the Kelowna RCMP says just before 1 p.m., on Sunday, August 10, callers reported seeing two males openly consuming alcohol in a parking lot of a shopping area off Banks Road.

When police located the vehicle, they determined that the driver was impaired by using a roadside screening device.  The driver, a 24-year old man from Calgary, was served an immediate roadside prohibition.

Upon further investigation, police determined that the pickup truck, a black Cadillac Escalade had been stolen the night before from a Calgary home.

Police also determined that the driver’s companion, a 15-year old boy had been reported missing from Alberta.

Both occupants were arrested for possession of the stolen truck.

The 15-year old passenger of the stolen pickup was released without charges  into the care of the Ministry of Children and Family Development.  He was then safely transported back home to his family in Alberta.

A 24-year old Calgary man was held in police custody and has since been released by the courts.  He has been charged with possession of stolen property Over $5,000 and is expected to re-appear in Court on August 25, 2014.

The name of the accused has not been released by police.
