Fargo TV show appearing on FX Network later in 2014

Billy Bob Thornton will play the role of Lorne Malvo in FX Network’s Fargo TV show.  Some scenes are being filmed in High River next week.

With Hollywood stars like Bob Odenkirk of Breaking Bad fame, Billy Bob Thornton, Sherlock’s Martin Freeman and Oliver Platt, you may not notice the backdrop to the FX Network’s series Fargo, but the town of High River has been cast in the role of a small Minnesota town.

Production for Fargo will begin in High River tomorrow as crews ready the Alberta foothills town for its winter time shoot.  4 Ave SW between 1 St SW and Macleod Tr SW will get a fresh coat of winter as set crews dress the streets with piles of snow.

The TV series is loosely based on the 1996 cult classic by the Coen brothers and although the show will not focus on the events and characters of the movie, the storyline will be similar to the 1996 cult classic.

According to IMDB, in the Fargo TV show, a drifter named Lorne Malvo, played by Billy Bob Thornton, arrives in a small Minnesota town.  He goes on to influence the townspeople with malice and violence, including the put-upon insurance salesman Lester Nygaard who is played by Martin Freeman.

Fargo will appear on the FX Network later in 2014.

High River residents are reminded that on Saturday, vehicles in the area will be improperly parked as the snow is created and placed.

After the preparations have been completed, primary filming will take place on Monday and Tuesday, with the majority of the shooting occurring at Colossi’s and at the east end of 4 Ave SW between 1 St SW and Macleod Tr SW.  Also, some scenes will be shot in the alley behind Maggie’s Diner.

There will be ‘No Parking’ signs on the North and South sides of 4 Avenue S.W. between 1 Street S.W. and Macleod Trail S.W., and on the North and South side of 3 Avenue S.W. between 1 Street S.W. and Macleod Trail S.W.  As well, drivers may be detoured around 4 Ave SW.

Traffic may be stopped intermittently for up to 10 minutes at a time on 1 St SW while the action unfolds before the cameras.  Production crews will work with local traffic, emergency vehicles and school buses to allow residents to get around High River as easily as possible.

On Wednesday, the primary shooting location will be outside 806 3 St SW between 7:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.  Residents are warned that the scenes on Wednesday will involve some gunfire and the action will likely be quite loud.

High River RCMP will provide an officer to be on-site during the shooting scenes on Wednesday.

There will be ‘No Parking’ signs on the East side of 9 Avenue S.W. between 3 Street S.W. and 1 Street S.W., as well as both sides of 3 Street S.W. between 9 Avenue S.W. and 7 Avenue S.W.  There may be a detour at 3 St SW.
