Brief Description:
The J. Willard Marriott Library seeks an energetic, visionary, innovative, and accomplished professional for the position of Head of Digital Scholarship Services. This is an excellent opportunity to expand and refine existing programming in the Library and to develop new programs and opportunities. Managing a team of three library staff and reporting to the Associate Dean for Collections and Scholarly Communication, the successful candidate will:
Lead efforts in the library and on campus to pursue scholarly publishing initiatives that support the dissemination of the results of research and scholarship at the University of Utah.
Oversee the development and maintenance of USpace (the University of Utah’s institutional repository)
Pursue a forward-looking vision focused on aiding faculty, staff and students in making their scholarly output available
While this position focuses primarily on digital scholarship services and the institutional repository, all faculty librarians serve the needs of University faculty, staff, and students along with members of the local community. Work across organizational lines is encouraged to support and strengthen all services in the Marriott Library. This position may participate as a member of the College and Interdisciplinary Teams as a library liaison to one or more academic departments. The Head of Digital Scholarship Services will assist with implementing the Marriott Library’s Strategic Directions (http://bit.ly/1KBroYK) and will be expected to be professionally active through participation in appropriate professional societies and through research and publication.
Required qualifications:
Terminal degree in a relevant field; ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS preferred.
Three years of experience in an academic or research library.
Ability to work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively both as a team member and independently, and to promote teamwork among colleagues.
Ability to be proactive, flexible, and collaborative as a team leader in order to accomplish departmental, library, and institutional goals.
Outstanding analytical, organizational, project, and time management skills and the ability to lead multiple projects simultaneously.
Excellent written and verbal skills and strong interpersonal skills.
Commitment to fostering a diverse educational environment and workplace and ability to work with a diverse student and faculty population.
Capacity to thrive in the fast-paced, future-oriented environment of a research institution and to respond effectively to changing needs and priorities.
Evidence of active participation and involvement in professional and scholarly associations and a record of scholarly engagement, typically demonstrated through publications and presentations, and commitment to professional issues and involvement.

Desired qualifications:
Two years of experience with institutional repositories, digital initiatives, digital metadata, and/or emerging scholarly publishing models.
Compensation: $60,000-70,000 dependent on qualifications, plus excellent benefits including a 14.2% retirement contribution to TIAA-CREF/Fidelity, medical and dental coverage, and generous paid sick and vacation time.
