The Document Delivery Services Librarian plans, develops, implements, and maintains document delivery services to support teaching, research, and learning at the University of Chicago. The position is responsible for coordinating document delivery across campus libraries as well as providing direct oversight and management of interlibrary loan services, the “scan and deliver” copying service, the UBorrow and BorrowDirect consortial borrowing services, Regenstein Library course reserves, and conversion of print materials into searchable text for purposes of ADA accommodation.

Reporting to the Director of Access Services and Assessment, the Document Delivery Services Librarian provides leadership and direction for document delivery services and is responsible for the Document Delivery Services unit, which provides course reserves, interlibrary loan services, consortial borrowing, and free scanning and online delivery of book chapters and articles via the Library’s Scan and Deliver service. Overseeing the work of 3.5 FTE supervisors, 8 FTE clerical staff, and additional student staff, the Document Delivery Services Librarian ensures that approximately 50,000 borrowing requests; 95,000 lending requests; 25,000 document delivery requests; and 25,000 course reserve requests are processed annually.

The Document Delivery Services Librarian serves as a resource on all interlibrary loan, course reserves, and document delivery matters. This position represents the University of Chicago Library at professional conferences and meetings and remains abreast of changes affecting resource sharing, course reserves, and document delivery. In this role, the Document Delivery Services Librarian is expected to play an active, leadership role within the profession and to shape and improve services for Library users through establishing and maintaining professional networks and collaborative relationships with other libraries. This position recommends and oversees implementation of new technologies and consortial arrangements to meet user needs and improve processing efficiency. The Document Delivery Services Librarian remains informed about copyright and accessibility issues and works to establish and implement appropriate guidelines for copyright compliance and ADA accommodation.

The successful candidate must have a Master of Library Science degree from an ALA-accredited institution and a minimum of three years of experience providing interlibrary loan, document delivery, or course reserves services, preferably in a large university or research institution. At least one year of supervisory experience required. Experience with interlibrary loan processing software or course reserves processing software required.
