Position Summary:

The Director of Library Services manages the library services, resources, and information literacy programming that supports the teaching and learning goals of the College. This position is responsible for planning, developing, implementing, and assessing library services, overseeing library staff, and collaborating with the academic support team in the Learning Commons to ensure that daily operations and programming enhance students’ academic success, persistence, and completion.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The following are the functions essential to performing this job:

Manage, develop, and assess library services, budget, resources, collections, and activities.

Supervise and evaluate Library Services and other designated staff.

Promote Library and Learning Commons services and resources to the college community.

Provide instruction and instructional support for reference, research, and information literacy programming that supports College curricula.

Ensure the accessibility and integration of library resources align with curricular goals and instructional platforms.

Use library services usage and outcomes assessment data to develop short-term and long-term goals that enhance students’ academic success, persistence, and completion in support of the Colleges strategic plan and priorities.

Serve as a subject matter expert on best practices and emerging trends in research, academic libraries, and copyright compliance.

Collaborate with the Tutoring and Writing Center Director and Learning Commons staff to ensure continuity of operations, programming, and services in the Learning Commons.

Collaborate with internal and external partners to provide library-related programming for students, faculty, staff, and the community.

Collaborate with faculty and staff to conduct faculty professional development.

Collaborate with academic departments and other college staff to ensure that library services align with course learning outcomes and other student support services.

Assist students with research, information literacy, and information technology questions.

Assist the Associate Vice President for the Center for Teaching and Learning with projects and duties supporting the mission and goals of the College, Academic Affairs, and the Center for Teaching and Learning.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s Degree in Library Science, or Library and Information Studies from an American Library Association accredited institution

Five years of experience in an academic library

Three years management experience in an education setting

Desired Qualifications:

Demonstrated experience with developing and integrating library services and information literacy programming into teaching and learning activities

Knowledge of best practices and trends in information literacy and library-related technologies

Experience supervising and training staff

Experience teaching in a college setting

Experience in a community college setting or post-secondary education setting

Experience using and teaching others how to use educational and related information technologies in an academic setting

Experience working in fast-paced environment while prioritizing multiple tasks

Experience evaluating and meeting the changing needs of students and faculty

Experience developing and managing budgets and programs

Experience collaborating effectively with a variety of campus constituency groups serving students

Demonstrated ability to use varying styles, approaches, skills and techniques that reflect an understanding and acceptance of differences in students’ learning needs, experiences, and cultural backgrounds

Proficiency in oral and written communication
