York University Libraries invite applications for the position of Adjunct Archivist with the Clara Thomas Archives & Special Collections. This is a one-year, contractually limited appointment.

The Clara Thomas Archives & Special Collections is a small but dynamic department of York University Libraries, and is located in the Scott Library on the Keele campus. Its archival holdings consist of more than eight kilometres of university records and private papers, including an extensive collection of non-textual materials. Responsibilities:
The Adjunct Archivist works within a collaborative team environment, and will report to the Head of the department. The incumbent will be responsible for: appraisal, arrangement, description, and physical processing of archival records in a wide variety of formats (including born-digital documents); development of digital content to promote the discovery and use of these records; provision of reference services in an academic setting; and instruction in archival literacy. The incumbent will participate in the work of the Libraries’ committees as appropriate, and will pursue scholarship, professional development, and service.
Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in archival studies from a graduate programme meeting the Association of Canadian Archivists’ Guidelines for the development of a two-year curriculum for a Master of Archival Studies or MLS (or equivalent) with concentration in professional archival education, with a graduation date of November 2013 or later.
• Demonstrated expertise in processing and providing access to archival records within an automated work environment, including working knowledge of the Rules for Archival Description. Experience with AtoM would be an asset.
• Demonstrated expertise in using computer applications to create electronic material to promote use of archival records, such as digital facsimiles of paper-based documents, virtual exhibits, and web-based guides to holdings.
• An understanding of copyright and privacy legislation and its application to archival holdings and reference services.
• Knowledge of preservation standards and best practices.
• Demonstrated project management skills, including the ability to manage detail-oriented workflow with a high degree of accuracy.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Excellent organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.
• Ability to undertake physical processing and handling of records.
• Ability to manage a complex workload in a timely, effective manner with minimum supervision.
Librarians and archivists at York University have academic status and are members of the York University Faculty Association bargaining unit (http://www.yufa.org/). Salary is commensurate with qualifications. The position is available from January 1, 2017. All York University positions are subject to budgetary approval.
