A diversified local company in Abu Dhabi is currently recruiting for a Publications Manager. You will be directly reporting to the Education & Cultural Engagement Director
Job Objective
The Publications Manager is responsible for setting publishing strategy, planning and implementation. He/She defines and implements the Museum's publishing program.
He /She supervises the editorial preparation of all Museum's books, exhibition catalogs, articles, social network publications and negotiates contracts with publishing houses.
Responsible for:
• Editorial & Publishing
Internal Communication:
• Liaising with all the mediation, interpretation & visitors services workers
External Communication:
• Liaising with stakeholders in his/her field (authors, publishing houses, press, copyright agencies, etc.)
Key Responsibilities/Duties
Managerial Role:
• Manages his/her team and works in close relationship with the Head of Educational & Cultural Engagement Directorate
• Defines and manages the editorial strategies across departments (newsletters, mini-sites, etc.)
• Directs and controls the work of employees in the unit and department.
• Performance management, career development guidance, objectives settings and KPI’s of direct reports.
• Supervises, trains and evaluates staff.
• Formulates daily, weekly and monthly plans and ensure alignment with Departmental and museum objectives.
• Prepares progress and status reports by analysing and summarizing the information and trends of the unit.
• Manages the administration of invoices related to Unit initiatives, projects and / or programme within publishing and editorial units.
Organizational Role:
• Guarantees editorial consistency and compliance according to specific unit projects, budget and schedules
• Communicate and exemplify the vision, mission and strategic direction of the company as decided by the company’s Director;
• Working with the Heads of all Museum departments, contributes to the medium and long-term departmental goals in line with the company’s vision, mission and strategic direction;
Functional Role:
• Contributes to the definition of the purpose and ambition of the publishing imprints for the museum and devise strategies to fulfil this. Develop publishing strategy by generating and developing book and digital titles that appeal to current and potential visitors and audience of the museum
• Assumes responsibility for the development and maintenance of editorial standards of language (English & Arabic), grammatical and stylistic form;
• Develops associations with local, regional and international publishers, museum’s and distributors
• Ensures cost effective resourcing for the department
• Manages performances, career development guidance setting objectives, and KPI's of direct reports, as well as train team members. Ensure training & development needs are assessed for all employees in the unit and plans developed and implemented.
• Ensures the implementation of the Transfer of Knowledge policy
• Any other duties appropriate to the post

• Performance appraisals conducted and submitted on time;
• Training hours per person per year in line with annual minimum training hour requirements; Employee satisfaction index Museum Strategic editorial and publishing plans submitted within the required timeframe, with complete substantiation, justifications, ensuring budgetary and staffing considerations are outlined
• Acceptance of Strategic Plan by the Board of Directors. Vendor issues are dealt with within pre-set SLA timeframe;
• Contracts are managed within budget.
• Quality of editorial and publishing functions provided;
• Compliance of functions to set policies and guidelines;
• Number of problems/gaps identified and resolved within established SLA timeline.
Knowledge/ Skill Area
• Knowledge of the organization, HR management rules, policies, vision and missions of the company
• Knowledge of museum publishing industry

• Good understanding and knowledge in the professional cultural network for the artistic projects and production
• Aware of the company’s current agenda and projects
• Copyright, publishing law and intellectual property law
• Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite

• Fluency in English, fluency in Arabic, French is a Plus
