1. Prepares a complete ERD/MRC Drilling Program. Works closely with other groups to assure the program is based on all available geological, reservoir and drilling information from nearby wells. The ERD Drilling Program must include, but is not limited to the following:
• ERD directional drilling program including collision avoidance
• “FastDrill” application and surveillance
• Bottomhole assembly program for both motor and rotary steerable applications
• ERD drilling string design including all torque and drag modeling
• Bit selection, hydraulics, rotary speed, and bit weight programs
• Wellbore stability and hole cleaning analysis
• Drilling mud program for both water base, oil base operations and drill-in fluids
• Wellhead and casing designs
• Drilling hazards assessment (lost returns, well control, wellbore stability, stuck pipe).
• Application of standard operations procedures, best practices and lessons learned.
• Progress time-depth and cost depth curves for the drilling phase.
• Bottomhole assembly program.
• Well evaluation program (LWD and/or wireline logging, coring)
2. Mentors less experienced engineers on ERD techniques, technology and drilling Performance.
3. Participates as requested in HAZOPS, SIMOPS and Risk Assessments.
4. Prepares cost estimates and AFE’s for the drilling phase.
5. Participates as drilling representative in the Well Delivery Process. Interacts with asset teams during well planning, execution and post-drill review.
6. Provides rig site technical assistance to Drilling Supervisors during critical drilling operations.
7. Trouble shoots operational and technical drilling problems.
8. Conducts follow-up assessments of drilling equipment selection and application.
9. Maintains close liaison with services companies’ engineers, and keeps abreast of recent developments in the area of well drilling technology, equipment, practices, etc.
10. Analyzes drilling performance and recommends changes in procedures and equipment based on findings. Participates in industry organizations such as SPE, API and/or IADC.
