Madhya Pradesh’s Harda girl tops MP board class 12 exam

Bhopal: Harda girl Jyoti Vishnoi from Saraswati Vidya Mandir Higher Secondary School stood first in Class 12 state merit by bagging 488 marks out of 500 (97.6%) in the higher secondary school certificate examinations, organized by MP Board of Secondary Education (MPBSE). Results were announced on Sunday.

Jyoti was followed by Ankit Chouhan of Sehore district with 486 marks (97.2%). Both are students of science-maths group.

Maintaining their winning streak, girls outshone boys this year too by bagging top honours. Apart from bagging top positions in merit for class 12, girls outperformed boys with an overall pass percentage of 69.42% compared to 63.3% by boys.

From provisionary merit list issued by MPBSE, as many as 61 girls made it to the merit list of class 12 students in science-maths, science-biology, humanities, commerce, agriculture and fine arts-home science groups, which has 109 students. That is almost 56% of total merit students.

Out of 53 students, who figured in top 10 of class 12 merit list of science-maths, ten were from Morena district.

Barring Indore, students of Bhopal, Jabalpur and Gwalior made it to top 10 of science-maths and science -biology merit list. Shajapur district students dominated humanities stream with five out of 15 students in merit list. Also, Indore had a lone student in the merit list who topped in the commerce group.

Bhopal district had 10 students out of 53 in science-maths, science-biology merit list. Final merit list would be declared after three months. Meanwhile, class X board exam results are expected to be out within a week’s time.

This time, government schools have performed better with pass percentage of 66.73 compared to non-government schools with 64.95 in class 12.

Like last year, class XII results are marginally better by 0.06% of regular students while private students has declined by more than 3%

This year, 65.88% regular students passed in class XII compared to 65.88% students in 2014 and 65.49% in 2012.

Releasing results, school education minister Paras Jain said, “It is commendable that we have declared results five days before last year” Last year, the results were declared on May 15.

Commenting on the stagnancy of results for last three years, he said, “Right to Education Act (RTE) is to be blamed. We will endeavour for improvement for results next year.”

He however, refused to accept that there were any mass copying instances recorded across the state even when he was told about Bhind district where every day more than 150 mass copying cases have been registered throughout the board exams.

Out of a total of 7,52,596 regular and private students, who appeared for class 12 exams this year, results of 7,50,270 students were declared. Results of 1328 regular students and 968 private students have been withheld and would be declared later.

Notably, 1,97,807 students (34.2%) regular students in higher secondary exams received first division marks.

Neemuch district has the highest pass percentage of regular students (85.87%) followed by Damoh (82.76%) and Mandsaur (81.45%). Lowest pass percentage was in Sidhi district (38.7%).
