YANGON, Myanmar, Oct. 1 — The 11th ASEAN Business & Investment Summit (ABIS 2014) will kick off on 11 November with regional businesses focusing on Inclusive Connectivity.

While the region has performed remarkably well economically, ASEAN members now need to further advance beyond pure economic growth. ASEAN also needs to better leverage its cultural bonds, history and infrastructure growth to promote the region’s potential.

This will set the backdrop for ABIS 2014, which will see representatives from both the public and private sectors addressing issues in this area through varied lenses. Prominent individuals including David Carden, former U.S. Ambassador to ASEAN, Simon Tay, Chairman of Singapore Institute of International Affairs and Don Lam, CEO of the Vina Capital Group.

Influential Burmese business leaders will also be present at the Summit as this is the first time an event of this scale is to be hosted in Myanmar. Serge Pun, CEO and Founder, Yoma Strategic Holdings, Tun Thura Htet, CEO, Myanmar Information Technology and Thant Myint U, Founder & Chairman of Yangon Heritage Trust will be speaking at the Summit.

“ABIS 2014 brings together private and public sector organizations, government representatives and captains of industry from within and outside ASEAN for effective dialogue to advance industry and business in the region,” said U Moe Kyaw, Managing Director of Myanmar Marketing Research and Development, one of the key organizers of ABIS 2014.

“We are encouraged to see many established ASEAN business leaders who are willing to share their perspectives on ASEAN’s business growth and believe the Summit will create a strong base for the region’s growth as ABIS enters into its second decade,” he added.

The 8th ASEAN Business Awards will also be held in conjunction with ABIS 2014, which will recognize ASEAN companies for their contribution to the regional economic growth. This year saw the highest number of applicants ever for the awards, with over 120 applications from around the region. Six companies will be awarded the best ASEAN Company in the categories of Corporate Excellence,Innovation, ASEAN Centricity, Micro and Small Medium Enterprises, Young Entrepreneurs & WomenLeaders.
