Fancy becoming the next badminton world champ or simply want to to try your hand at a new sport to keep fit? In a bid to get more people of all ages and abilities playing, Everyone Active – which operates Basildon Sporting Village and Eversley Leisure Centre in conjunction with Basildon Council  – has teamed up with Badminton England, the National Governing Body for the sport.

Starting in March 2015, Basildon Sporting Village and Eversley Leisure Centre will introduce a number of Badminton England campaigns to encourage more people in Basildon to try their hand at the sport, including No Strings, Battle Badminton, Smash Up Badminton and Essentials Badminton. The programmes are designed to be fun and social, as well improve participant’s fitness and gameplay. Staff at the facilities will also receive regular training from Badminton England to develop their knowledge base.

Says Simon Hughes, Badminton England’s Head of Recreational Badminton: “We are looking forward to working with Everyone Active in 2015 to develop a great partnership and create even more exciting opportunities for people to play badminton every week.

“Badminton is England’s most popular racquet sport with over 3 million adults playing every year, and working with Everyone Active will ensure that there are even more chances for people to play whenever they want.”

“We’re so pleased to be working with Badminton England and to be leading the way on a national partnership that offers so many quality ways to play badminton,” says Neil Gilmore, Everyone Active Sports Development Officer.

“We’re looking forward to a very successful partnership in the years ahead and to driving participation levels in Basildon. Badminton is a great way to stay active and Badminton England’s programmes provide an ideal opportunity to meet other like-minded people on court and have fun, whilst getting fitter and improving your playing skills.”
