I am thrilled to announce the official online launch of “Liberty Relief International” (LRI), the humanitarian relief arm of Liberty Counsel’s family of ministries.
As you may know, over the past several months Liberty Counsel has had the tremendous privilege of partnering with Eric Watt and RUN Ministries on what I believe has been one of the most important humanitarian efforts of our lifetime.
We first connected with Eric and his RUN team in August of last year, right as hundreds of thousands of Christians and other persecuted minorities were literally fleeing for their lives from ISIS terrorists. The brutality and inhumanity of ISIS ethnic and religious cleansing has shocked the nations of the world. Those shockwaves strongly reverberated through the faith-based community here in the United States.
Our connection with RUN gave Liberty Counsel members a very practical and effective way to respond to this historic humanitarian crisis. Thousands of Liberty Counsel friends stepped forward to help, demonstrating amazing generosity. As a result, Liberty Counsel’s friends and supporters have become key partners in helping rescue more than 100,000 refugees from ISIS brutality.
This has undoubtedly been the greatest lifesaving effort in which the Liberty Counsel family has had the privilege of taking part. But it’s not the first time Liberty Counsel has extended the hand of Christian compassion to those who are suffering.
For example, during recent eruptions of conflict in and around Israel, when more than 60 members of the Israeli Defense Force were killed in action, friends of Liberty Counsel stepped forward to provide support for the families of the deceased. Liberty Counsel has offered relief and assistance on other occasions, especially when anti-religious bigotry reared its ugly head.
The fact is, the world is becoming more and more dangerous for Christians and Jews. Anti-Semitism and anti-Christian bigotry are on the rise due, in large part, to the rapid expansion of radical Islamism. Providing humanitarian relief, with an emphasis on helping those facing religious persecution, has become a vital aspect of Liberty Counsel’s mission of advancing religious freedom, the sanctity of human life, and the family.
Which brings us to this special day and the online launch of Liberty Relief International, the humanitarian relief arm of Liberty Counsel.
We now envision a much-expanded vision of what Liberty Counsel can do through humanitarian relief, most notably where Christians and Jews are facing a rising tide of persecution. Liberty Counsel’s mission is centered on advancing religious liberty. We are among the leaders in fighting the battle for liberty in the courtrooms, in Congress, and in the public square.
But in the face of persecution and disaster, Liberty Counsel must also be ready to extend God’s hand of compassion while we provide the legal and educational resources to advance the cause of our God-given liberties.
That is precisely what Liberty Relief International will do, beginning today. Operating as part of Liberty Counsel’s family of non-profit ministries, LRI will seek to provide humanitarian aid to those who are suffering, especially where anti-religious discrimination is prevalent. Yes, we will also provide assistance when natural disasters ravage communities. But our focus will remain on our core mission of advancing religious liberty, and thus materially aiding those whose liberties are coming under attack.
In the coming weeks and months, Liberty Relief will expand to meet the dramatically increasing humanitarian need with a focus on those facing religious persecution.
The opportunity to advance the cause of liberty through relief projects is great and growing. A recent U.N. report indicated that, in just one year, the number of people who need humanitarian relief worldwide has nearly doubled — and much of that is due to anti-religious extremism. And since our relief efforts will be guided by our Judeo-Christian framework as well as our core mission of advancing religious liberty, I believe Liberty Relief International is uniquely positioned to help answer this desperate cry.
Finally, and most importantly, I want to thank you for your prayers and generous partnership over these past few months on behalf of those who are suffering so greatly in northern Iraq. What you have done has literally saved tens of thousands of lives. You have answered the call of behalf of our persecuted brothers and sisters, and your heavenly reward is great!
As we move ahead together, I believe what we will do through Liberty Relief International will equip us to reach even more people as we advance the cause of liberty!
