French banking major BNP Paribas has acquired broking firm Sharekhan for close to 2240 crore.

Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas acted for BNP Paribas with a team led by Corporate Partners Ashwath Rau and Shishir Vayttaden. On key regulatory aspects, the team was advised by senior advisor, Anand Sinha.

Cyril’s Bangalore-based employment law Partner Rashmi Pradeep assisted with Labour Law related advice. S.R. Patnaik advised on tax issues, while Partner Nisha Kaur Uberoi advised on the Competition Law aspect.

J. Sagar Associates acted for the management of Sharekhan, with a team led by Partners Somasekhar Sundaresan, Vikram Raghani and Jamshed Bhumgara.

AZB & Partners acted for the sellers with a team led by Partner Vaidhyanadhan Iyer.

The existing shareholders in Sharekhan include Citi Venture Capital International, Barings Asia Private Equity, IDFC and Samara Capital, according to Mint.

Sharekhan will join BNP Paribas’ personal investors division,which is a key player in retail brokerage and digital banking services with 1.7 million clients in Europe, reports ET.
