Nabam Tuki sworn-in as CM of Arunachal Pradesh for second term



i. Congress leader Nabam Tuki has been sworn-in as the eighth Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh for the second consecutive term. 

ii. Governor Lt Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma yesterday administered the oath of office and secrecy to Tuki in a function held at Darbar Hall of Raj Bhavan in Itanagar.

PM’s economic advisory council head C. Rangarajan tenders resignation



i. Chairman of the economic advisory council to the Prime Minister (PMEAC) Chakravarthi Rangarajan has resigned following the defeat of the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) in the general elections.

ii. The PMEAC also has Saumitra Chaudhuri, V.S. Vyas, Pulin B. Nayak and Dilip M. Nachane as members. Its term is parallel to that of the Prime Minister. Manmohan Singh resigned as Prime Minister on 17 May. The official said three of the four members of the advisory body have sent their resignations to the Prime Minister.

Ashok Jacob appointed Australia-India Council Chair

i. Australia has appointed prominent investment adviser Ashok Jacob as the Chair of Australia-India Council.

ii. Jacob’s appointment would be with effect from this year till 2019. His impressive business record and extensive contacts in both countries would assist in strengthening Australia’s relationship with India, an official statement said.

iii. AIC was established in 1992 to promote people-to-people and institutional links between the two countries with a focus on education, science and technology, sport, public policy, heritage and arts sectors.

Pankaj Advani won CCI Biliards title

i. Pankaj Advani on 14 May 2014 won Cricket Club of India (CCI) Classic Billiards and Snooker tournament. He defeated two-time world runner-up Dhruv Sitwala 1425-447 in the final.

ii. The Bangalore-based Eight-time world champion Pankaj Advani also won the Highest Break award for the 530, which he scored against Devendra Joshi in the quarterfinals.

Amul to set up five lakh litres per day capacity dairy plant in Varanasi

i. Asia's biggest milk brand Amul announced to set up a dairy processing plant in Varanasi. The plant will initially process five lakh litres per day with the capacity to double the production.

ii. Palanpur based Banas Dairy will set up the plant with the investment of 200 crore rupees. Banas Dairy is a member of the union of the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation that markets Amul.

iii. Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav offered Amul 30 acres land in Varanasi.

iv. Although UP is India's largest milk producing state, the share of organized sector is only one lakh litres milk per day while private players were exploiting the farmers.

Sir Jack Brabham, three-time F-1 champion passes away

i. Three-time Formula One world champion Sir Jack Brabham, who won the title in a car he built himself, has died at the age of 88.

ii. The Australian driver, who was knighted in 1979, won the championship in 1959, 1960 and 1966. He remains the only man in history to have designed, built and driven a championship-winning car.
