(Photo credit: Drag News Australia) – We love shining the light in places where you may not be expecting us to and in this case the spotlight is aimed at the racers and fans who attended the 2015 NZ Nationals at Meremere Dragway in New Zealand last weekend to partake in the country’s biggest and most prestigious race. From 4-second top fuel cars to alky burners deep into the fives and even a Brogie roadster running into the middle depths of the six second area, this was a race for the ages that officials had to hurry through to beat out an impending rain storm that was supposed to fill Sunday with “liquid sunshine”. Thankfully the stars lined up, the racers lined up, and no oil downs were recorded all weekend allowing the program to be finished off as planned. That’s great!

Drag racing is the one truly global motorsport. The numbers that were recorded at the NZ Nationals can be stacked up to people running similar cars all over the world. Some of the cars you will see in the photos at the link have history on European or US shores before heading down to the island nation in the Pacific. The things that are similar far outstrip the differences and it looks like a great weekend was had by the competitors and the fans. The race report states that 13 NZ national records were smashed at the event, history was made, and tons of personal bests were recorded. That’s what it is all about. In a sport where one winner triumphs over many competitors on a week to week basis, it is important to understand that success can be defined in many ways not just through trophies.

We think you will really enjoy this look into the world of drag racing at the highest levels in New Zealand!
