Although Thai food is arguably one of the world’s most well loved cuisines, Bangkok can also boast of being home to some pretty fabulous international cuisine as well. Chinese restaurants are extremely popular in the Big Mango – here are some of the best Chinese Restaurants in Bangkok:
China House, Mandarin Oriental
Situated on the quiet banks of the Chao Phraya River, the Mandarin Oriental Hotel offers a peaceful haven to diners away from the chaos of daily life in Bangkok. The China House restaurant serves modern Chinese cuisine in an art deco setting, which was inspired by Shanghai’s famous Art Deco period. Set in a two story colonial building, and complete with dark wood furnishings, this is a truly luxurious place to dine. Customers can choose between an a la carte menu, enjoy unlimited delicious dim sum between Tuesday and Saturday and a brunch buffet on Sunday featuring many of the executive chef’s signature dishes including Peking Duck. The China House offers excellent food, first class service and a lovely ambience.
Hong Kong Noodle, Hua Lamphrong
Located next to Hua Lamphrong MRT (513-514 RongMuang Rd, Rama IV), this famous noodle shop will instantly transport you to eating on the streets of Hong Kong. Based in an old house, the shop has three narrow floors – diners must remove their shoes before entering the team room on the top floor). The first and second floor offer regular seating (and great people watching opportunities!). Obviously given the name, the daily freshly made noodles are the speciality of this establishment, and whilst they certainly are amazing, the rice dishes are equally as good. The average cost of each dish is 40 baht.
Noble House, SwissotelNaiLert Park
The Noble House is famous with all of Bangkok’s residents for its famous dim sum buffet. The buffet is 499 baht ++ and offers more than 30 dishes including friend dim sum, noodles and desserts. Despite it being called a buffet, diners are in fact given a menu to select options from. Signature dishes from the a la carte menu include roasted Peking duck, barbecued suckling pig, stir fried shredded abalone with chicken and black mushroom in X.O. sauce, deep friend chicken with minced garlic Mongolian style and for dessert try the chilled sago with honeydew. The restaurant, open daily, is located in the ground floor of the hotel and the red and dark wood décor give it the authentic feel that is always a nice addition when eating Chinese cuisine.
Silver Waves, Chatrium
This is a Chinese restaurant with a view and a half as it offers diners panoramic views of the Chao Phraya River from the 36th floor. The restaurant opens daily for lunch between 11.30am-2.30pm, offers pre tapas from 5pm-8pm and dinner from 6pm-10.30pm. Signature dishes include handmade dim sum, Peking duck (served two ways – first with the traditional Chinese style pancakes and then as a stir fried dish accompanied by rice), BBQ pork, and the Chinese tapas with sundowners are a must (this is one of the less well known but more purse friendly sky bars in Bangkok)! The ambiance, friendly staff and great food make this a must visit place.
Street Food Stalls, Chinatown
So not an actual restaurant as such, but it would be remiss to write an article about Chinese food and not give a nod to the street food stalls found in Chinatown, known for serving some of the best and cheapest food in Bangkok. Chinatown really comes to life at night, and it is a fun place to be. Two of the more famous stalls are T&K Seafood (where Thanon Phadung Dao Street meets Yaowarat) and Rut &Lek Seafood (same location as T&K), both offering amazing whole steamed or barbecued fish, large juicy river prawns, delicious, tender soft crab and wonderful sea food soups. Odean is another much loved stall, located just behind Wat Traimit – however this is a street stall with a difference. Their signature dish is the odean crab noodle soup, however contrary to most street stalls this is one dish that is not cheap and a bowl can cost up to as much as 500 baht depending on the size of the crab claw, so be sure to specify when ordering the cost you are looking to pay! Also do not miss Kuay Jab NaiHuan – this little stall found at the intersection of Yaowarat Road and YaowaPhanit streets serves one dish only of large rice noodles with crispy pork belly, but the large crowds it draws every night are testament to just how good this dish is.
