Asparagus

Asparagus is one of Spring's signature foods and it can be found in green, purple and white. Getting your kids to help snap off the tough ends of asparagus is a fun way to get them helping in the kitchen and learning about veggies. Our fave way to serve this versatile veggie is to keep it simple. Toss spears with olive oil and balsamic vinegar and sprinkle with sea salt. Then roast at 400 F for 4 or 5 minutes, until bright green and crisp. Freshly shaved parmesan takes it over the top.

Radishes

Radishes are a bright, crisp and vibrant addition to many Spring-inspired dishes, especially salads. The root of a member of the mustard family, they have a peppery flavour and a crisp, crunchy texture. When choosing, smaller is better. Cut leaves off completely and trim ends. Wash thoroughly in cold water. Kids will love these sliced very thinly and added for pops of colour to their favourite salads or cut in thirds and let them have fun dipping in their favourite dip or hummus.

Nectarines

Juicy and sweet, nectarine's are a stone fruit, related to peaches, cherries and plums. They grow on trees and are a bit like peaches, without the fuzz. They are a great kid food and are a delish addition to fruit salads, breakfast cereals, ice creams, salads and smoothies. Kids will love helping you make (and eat!) an ooey gooey nectarine crumble, perfect served with vanilla ice cream.

Garden Peas

Many people associate peas with the mushy tinned variety experienced during childhood. But real, garden-fresh green peas are so much more than that. An added bonus? Peas are a kid-fave so they are great for adding to numerous kid-friendly meals like stir-fry's, pastas, casserole's and rice dishes. Your kids can help you shell fresh peas from their pods and then place in a colander and rinse well before adding to your dish of choice.
