Ben Nunery and his new bride Ali decided to take advantage of the empty new house they were set to move into and take their wedding photos there. The pictures were taken that day by Ali’s sister Melanie, a professional photographer.

It was 2009, just four years ago when Ben and Ali were photographed, very much in love, on the stairs and in door ways and in the rooms of the house in which they dreamed of starting and raising their family.

Two years later, Ali lost a short battle with lung cancer, leaving behind Ben and their one-year-old daughter Olivia.

Ali’s sister Melanie recently returned to the once-again empty house, to photograph Ben and now three-year-old Olivia just before father and daughter moved from the home they shared for too short a time with Ali. And together they captured moments that can only be described as poignant and beautiful and gut wrenching.

Standing half-hidden behind open French doors, husband and wife are juxtaposed beside daughter and father. Daddy jumping down the stairs to his excited daughter, juxtaposed against Olivia’s beautiful mom coming down the stairs of their brand new house to meet her groom.

Of the 15 images that appeared on Today.com via Melanie’s professional website, by far the most beautiful, and perhaps the most sad, is the image of Ben dancing with Olivia, her feet standing on his, watched through an open door way, an homage to the picture taken just 4 years ago, of Ben and Ali dancing in the home they hoped to be in, together, for many years to come.

Nunery told Today that the pictures weren’t meant to sad. They weren’t representing an ending, but a continuation, a life going on and moving forward.

“I was just really looking for a way to say farewell to the house, and have some things that Olivia and I can have to...remember the house," Ben told TODAY.com.“I hope that people can see it as evidence of a love that Ali and I shared that is still very deep, [and] that love carries on, and it doesn't die," he said.

"It doesn't mean that we forget our loved ones, but find ways to remember them and keep that memory going."

What a beautiful gift to Olivia, a beautiful homage to Ali and a wonderful memory for Ben Nunery captured forever in images of a time and a place that meant so much to them all.
