Lahore: Punjab Information Technology Board has launched Pakistan’s first free public WiFi hotspots in three cities; Lahore, Multan and Rawalpindi.

These WiFi hotspots are installed on major areas of these cities such as Metro stops, recreational parks, railway station and other public gathering spots. There are almost 250 hotspots are installed among which 115 are installed at different locations in Lahore as said by Director IT PITB Sajjad Ghani.

WiFi will connect 160,000 users to internet in four hours. Each hotspot has four to five access points with the 100 to 500 meters of range capability.

Public can connect with these WiFis by providing their numbers and ID for identification. Time and location of users will also be check to avoid terrorist activities but user data and browsing history will not be saved.

Downloading and video streaming are banned by Punjab Information Technology Board; each hotspot has its on display stating statics about bandwidth and total number of users connected with it.
