RAWALPINDI: On Monday, the Competition Commission of Pakistan issued a show-cause notice to the Proctor & Gamble Pakistan (Pvt) Ltd (P&G) for the alleged deceptive marketing practices that is claimed were “in the violation of Section 10 of the Competition Act 2010.”
The CCP (Competition Commission of Pakistan), acting on complaint from Reckitt Benckiser (Pakistan) Ltd (RB), led an enquiry into Safeguard campaign that refers to the soap as “Pakistan’s # 1 rated anti-bacterial soap.”
An officer from the Competition Commission of Pakistan, of the Fair Trade enquiry discovered that the P&G had failed to provide “substantial explanation for terming Safeguard Pakistan’s # 1 rated anti-bacterial soap,” Asfandyar Khattak, a statement from CCP Director Advocacy & Media.
“According to enquiry, the untrue claim has thus resulted in distribution of false and/or misleading info to consumers related to quality of their product Safeguard in the violation of Section 10 of the Competition Act,” said the statement.
The Competition Commission of Pakistan said that the “false claim” may influence the consumers to prefer Safeguard over other competing anti-bacterial soaps and that “in contrast to the facts.”
In doing so, P&G may harm the business interests of competitors ─ including RB that is a violation of Section 10 of the Competition Commission Act, due to which a show-cause notice has been issued to P&G, said CCP.
The company has been called to a hearing “on a given date,” said the Competition Commission of Pakistan.
