India has gradually found its humour quotient. A nation not known to take its jokes lightly, especially if the joke is on the high and mighty forces, has discovered a reasonably sound sense of humour which is reflective in the growing number of parody accounts on Twitter. These accounts are set up to spoof celebrities, politicians, media persons of repute, infamous businessmen, brands and just about anybody who deserves to be satirised.
While the early parody accounts of the prime minister were taken down, soon after a bevy of satirists took to Twitter to carry on the parody show. And, with this being the season of Lok Sabha Elections, the parody accounts have blended political humour with election campaigning stories.
Here, we’ve compiled a list of 12 parody accounts that you could follow for a good laugh during these elections:
1. Arnab Modi (@JusticeArnab)
Arnab Goswami, the Editor-in-Chief and news anchor of the Indian news channel Times Now, the very vocal host of ‘Frankly speaking with Arnab’ most popular for his thundering questions to top politicians demanding them with the ‘Nation wants to know’ line, has a much followed parody account on Twitter called Justice Arnab. With 25K+ followers, the parody account provides a day to day account of political observations.

2. Kejriwal’s Diary (@fakeriwal)
Kejriwal’s Diary says humour revolution in India has just begun, with a bio describing him as ‘Resigner-in-chief at AAP’ who will try anything for 49 days. The parody account on AAP leader and Ex-Delhi CM, Arvind Kejriwal tweets funny most of the times, while taking a dig at controversial statements made by the party’s prominent candidates. The account enjoys more than 13.4K followers and interestingly follows the IIT Madras handle.

3. Rofl Gandhi (@RoflGandhi_)
The spoof account on Rahul Gandhi, the face of Congress has enough fodder to parody on forever. The bio describes itself as ‘Dalit ke Ghar ka Daliya mujhe mummy ke hath ki macaroni se acha lagta hai’, pulling a fast one on Rahul’s lunch visits at Dalit farmers’ homes. The account is followed by nearly 15.1K followers who just can’t get enough of prince’s wisecracks on the affairs of the nation.

4. Yo Yo Diggy Singh (@diggyleaks)
The parody account on Digvijaya Singh of the Indian National Congress is inspired from the very vocal former minister and senior politician. Enjoying a followership of 10K on Twitter, Yo Yo Diggy Singh takes regular digs at AAP leaders and sarcastic tweets on his own party, the Congress and more so at party president, Rahul Gandhi.
Allother parties have dubious secret funding. Only Congress' source of funding is known to all: scam money.

5. Arnab Goswami (@JudgeArnab)
The Editor-in-Chief and news anchor of the Indian news channel Times Now, Arnab Goswami has inspired another popular parody account called ‘Judge Arnab’ where it describes itself as a parody of the Hon’ble Chief Justice of Nation, whose court is more fast track than other courts. With more than 8.7K followers, tweets take a constant dig at Modi, Kejriwal, Barkha, Rajdeep, Shazia, Somnath and just about anything that is making news.
Shaiza Ilmi is clearly asking Muslims to vote for AAP. Xaviers' prinicipal indirectly asking Christians to vote Cong. But Modi is communal.

6. Marendra Nodi (@MarendraNodi)
A hilarious spoof account on Narendra Modi, the prime ministerial candidate of the main opposition party, Bharatiya Janata Party. More than 4K+ followers are treated to sarcastic tweets at regular intervals that never fail to take a dig at the campaigning style of Modi, or current controversies around the much buzz-worthy and shrewd politician.

7. Being Sardesai (@0ld_monk)
News anchor and Editor-in-chief of IBN18 Network, Rajdeep Sardesai who is also an active Twitter personality has a spoof account by the name ‘Being Sardesai’. With more than 5.6K followers and a bio that says, ‘I say what he doesn’t’, tweets are a regular commentary on all kinds of political affairs, including digs on his previous association at NDTV.
Reports coming in that Pakistan govt. has threatened a nuclear attack on India if it deports likes of Sagarika & Barkha to Pakistan.

8. Ambaniji’s Diary (@FakeAmbaniji)
Mukesh Ambani, the chairman and MD of Reliance Industries and one of the wealthiest businessman counted amongst billionaires has a parody account by the name of Ambaniji’s Diary. Tweets take a dig at people who have been trying to expose him, especially AAP leader, Arvind Kejriwal. Apart from spoofing around, the bio has a line that says it all – I will buy you and then sell you gas! Fairly new, the account has garnered more than 4K followers.
People gift their wives flowers, a watch, maybe a nice diamond ring. I gave mine an IPL team. Take that.

The former Indian TV journalist-turned politician of Aam Aadmi Party contesting from Chandni Chowk in the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, has a parody account too. More than 8.5K followers are treated to a variety of sarcastic tweets about senior AAP leaders and secret deals with members of other political parties.

The parody account on AAP leader Yogendra Yadav who is contesting the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections from Gurgaon, describes itself as ‘CEO [Chief Excuse Officer] of AAP’. With nearly 5K followers, the tweets take constant jibes at Arvind Kejriwal and other AAP leaders.

The parody account on the Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir, Omar Abdullah says ‘Mere BAAP ko kuch mat batana’ in the bio, while also informing that the real CM has blocked him on Twitter. With more than 6.5K followers, tweets make jibes at leaders of all political parties.

The Samajwadi Party chief and father of Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Akhilesh Singh Yadav, has a parody account with more than 4K followers. Tweets are made mostly in Hindi and provide a wide range of sarcasm against other political party candidates.

Parody Twitter accounts often hold a mirror to the truth. We do not know the outcome of the elections, but at least we can have a good laugh before we get there.
