FACES of Birmingham 2015

Meet the 2015 Faces of Birmingham! This annual B-Metro event is a crowd favorite. With free admission, complimentary food, a cash bar, live entertainment by Clinton Babers and raffles for great prizes, you won’t want to miss this year’s party.

“Embracing Silence” Exhibit
Now through February 13
Alabama Center for Architecture

The exciting photography exhibit, a display of black and white photos of local Moss Rock Preserve, features images of boulder fields, sandstone glades, waterfalls, native plants and wildlife. You won’t want to miss the work of Joseph De Sciose, winner of the Garden Globe Award for “Best Photography for a Garden Book.”

Warhol Fabricated
Now through February 28
Abroms-Engel Institute for the Visual Arts- UAB

The works of legendary Andy Warhol will be on display in the first major show by an artist of global renown at UAB. Visitors can expect to view nine screen prints and 90 photographic prints owned by UAB along with loaned pieces from various national museums.

30A Songwriters Festival
January 16-18
30A in Northwest Florida

Considered the Sundance of songwriters festivals, this annual music event brings together the best in legendary and up-and-coming singer-songwriters at 25 venues along the scenic Highway 30A. This year’s lineup features 150 artists including Graham Nash, the Indigo Girls, Leon Russell, Jason Isbell and Shawn Mullins.

Hearts for Hasberry

Mount Laurel

The 2nd annual 5k, 10K and 1 mile Fun Run takes place this weekend. This year, all proceeds will benefit the Alabama Kidney Foundation to help increase awareness of kidney disease and to help those who are in need of treatment or a transplant.

Abraham-in-Motion

Don’t miss one of the fastest rising stars in the modern dance world, Kyle Abraham. As a choreographer, collaborator and performer, Abraham received a MacArthur Foundation “Genius Grant.” Abraham returns to the Alabama Dance Festival with his new work, a historical homage exploring the quest for civil rights and freedom.

Swan Lake

The Alabama Theatre

Award-winning dancer and Moiseyev dance company soloist, Nikolay Anokhin, presents one of the greatest classical ballets of all time. The full-scale production based on German legend and Russian folklore tells of a heroic prince and his attempts to free a beautiful swan maiden from an evil spell.

The BJCC

The BrickFair joins adult LEGO fans from across the globe to show off their projects and share their passion for LEGO. From LEGO models and displays to toy trains sprawled over 58,000 square feet, this event is sure to be fun for the whole family.

A Tribute to MLK Jr.

Join the ASO for their annual concert celebrating the life, legacy and leadership of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the Civil Rights Movement. This year’s performance will feature the voices of The Aeolians of Oakwood University and the Lockhart Dance Theatre Youth Ensemble, hosted by Jeh Jeh Pruitt and conducted by Michael Morgan.
