Birmingham Hammers Presents

UAB vs Atlanta Silverbacks

For the second year in a row, the Birmingham Hammers will present a match between the UAB Blazers and the Atlanta Silverbacks. Last year, 2,200 people showed up to the match in support of the Hammers’ efforts to bring pro soccer to Birmingham, and this year’s game should be just as popular.

Leprechaun Leap 5K Run/Walk

The Preserve in Hoover

This inaugural 5K and fun run is presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield and benefits the Easter Seals of Birmingham. The race will be followed by a family-friendly festival featuring live music from Rockstar and Rollin in the Hay, an arts and crafts fair, and food trucks.

Join the Junior League of Birmingham and the Birmingham Barons as they take “Small Steps to End Childhood Obesity” in this year’s family-friendly 5K for Kids and 1-mile fun run. The race features some of Birmingham’s favorite places and will be followed by an expo and post-race party.

20th Annual Showcase of Bands

The Alabama Bluegrass Association presents this annual event featuring a full day of performances by 14 of Alabama’s best local bluegrass bands. Arrive early to partake in a bluegrass instrument workshop in banjo, guitar, mandolin, and bass at 9AM.

Cherry Blossom Festival

Birmingham Botanical Gardens

Explore Japanese culture through origami, calligraphy, sumi-e, and martial arts demos at this 10th annual festival. The free, public event is presented by the Japan-America Society of Alabama and will take place in the Japanese Gardens.

Collaborative Concert with REVERB

My Name is Julia / My Name is Boots

This gala event features a special rendition of Kathryn Tucker Windham’s
My Name is Julia, a one-woman show about Alabama poet Julia Tutwiler. The second half of the program will honor the legendary Boots Carroll’s 60+ year career onstage in the Magic City with performances by Jan Hunter and Kristi Tingle Higgenbotham.

Stirling Lecture: R.J. Mitte

R.J. Mitte, co-star of AMC’s Emmy-winning drama Breaking Bad and equality and diversity activist, will speak at the BSC campus about his real-life experiences dealing with cerebral palsy and overcoming challenges associated with it. The event is free and open to the public.
