It’s been 18 years since A Tribe Called Quest issued their last album, The Love Movement, so the surprise announcement of a final album delighted fans to say the least. We Got It From Here… Thank You 4 Your Service is the 16-track album that features the band’s four original members, including the late Phife Dawg who passed away earlier this year.
A Tribe Called Quest, who reduced to a trio in 1991, officially split following the 1998 release of The Love Movement, leading fans to believe that album was their last. Unaware that Phife Dawg’s days were numbered, the band reunited in the studio last year for their final act.
The prolific hip hop group tapped a number of talented collaborators to join them, including Elton John, André 3000, Jack White, Busta Rhymes, Kanye West, Talib Kweli, Anderson .Paak, and Consequence. The result, We Got It From Here… Thank You 4 Your Service, serves as A Tribe Called Quest’s sixth and final album, and a bittersweet farewell to their beloved bandmate and brother who also named the album.
Q-Tip explained to The New York Times that the meaning behind the album’s title is unknown—”We’re just going with it because he liked it.”
