Creating smoky eyes is a super technique to get a sophisticated yet dramatic look for the great Christmas party. It isn’t necessary to visit a beauty salon or hire the services of a professional makeup artist for this purpose but you can do it by yourself using right supplies and a bit know-how. Here is an easy tutorial on how to create dramatic smoky eye affect. Follow these steps to accentuate your eyes in classical way.

Color Selection

Decide on the color by keeping your skin tone, complexion, eyes color and outfit color in your mind and purchase three different shades of the selected color. Black or gray, bronze and brown are most common shades for the smokey eye makeup. Gray and plum are also used but these hues look good particularly for green eyes. Avoid choosing too bright colors.

Use Right Tools

After the selection of eye-shadow color, the next step is picking out the right tools. As I have mentioned that right selection of tools is important for creating a perfect Christmas smokey eye makeup. For a perfect smokey eye makeup you need a fine-quality sponge applicator, concealer, eye-shadow primer, loose powders (they gives good blending ability that is essential for smoky eye makeup look, black eyeliner (you can select a pencil, cream, or liquid eyeliner as per your convenience) and good-quality makeup brushes.

How to Create Christmas Smokey Eyes

Follow given-below step-by-step guide to create dramatic smokey eyes:

Wash your face and clean it using a soft cloth or tissue towel. It will help you remove all the accumulated dirt particles as well as the residues of previous makeup from your face.

Now you are ready to start with smokey eyes. First of all, hide the under-eye circles and any dark or red spots by applying a concealer and set it using a powder foundation.

Apply the eye-shadow primer.

The next step involves the application of highlighter. Take the lightest shade and apply it inside the corner of eyelid (on both lower and upper lids). Apply the same shade under your eyebrows.

Now take the medium shade and apply it on the whole eyelid. Blend the medium shade and highlighter thoroughly at the inside corners.

Now it is a time to add a dazzling affect to your eyes. Take the darkest shade of the selected color and apply on the crease of eyelid starting from the outside corner of your eyes. Blend the eye-shadows from the lash line in upwards direction using an eye makeup brush with fine bristles.

Add more drama to your smoky eye by applying the eyeliner. Applying the eyeliner starting from inside corner lash line to end of eyebrows will give your makeup a cat-eye look. However if you want to create a smudgy look, then make a thick line on the top of lash line and smudge it with the help of your fingertips.

The final step of Christmas smokey eye makeup is curling your eye lashes and applying mascara. Firstly curl your eye lashes using an eyelash curler and then apply the mascara to your top lashes wiggling the brush between them. Next apply to the lower lashes in same way. Keep your eyes open till the mascara dries well otherwise you might end up with lashes which will spoil the makeup.

You are done with the Christmas smokey eye makeup. If any eye-shadow fell onto your face, brush it off in quick and broad strokes.
