I started out by selling on eBay. At the time you could sell digital pdf e-books on there. I had a lot of success at the time. E-Bay eventually stopped digital product sales. The only way to continue was to send it by post on a CD. Too much hassle all those envelopes and trips to the post office.

I always wanted better results on eBay and so I started to study everything about selling. This helped me in two ways. Firstly with my selling on eBay and also the job I started at the time which was insurance telesales. What a hard job that was.

However, I stuck the job out for just over 7 and a half years. I had always remained in the top ten sales people there out of just over 200. So I didn’t do so badly.

If you want a good tip in selling whether on the internet or face-to-face then here it is…

Don’t think of it as selling. Think of it as helping people get what they want. You’re providing a service.

Example…

If someone is struggling to buy a car but can’t afford it. You could help them if you were offering an inexpensive car buying service. You shouldn’t be trying to sell it to them. Instead, you would be letting them know of a solution.

When I sold insurance there were different add-on products available. I didn’t try to get everyone to buy them all. Instead, if I found they would benefit from having one then I’d just make them aware of it. The customer would then make their own mind up whether to have it or not.

I digress. So, I left that job and began to market my own products from the internet. That is a struggle because there is so much to learn. But I did learn by sticking at it and trying everything I found. However, I certainly don’t profess to know everything. Who does? I am always learning and always will.

Sadly my father passed away 2 months before I left that job. As I had looked after him for many years I missed him very much. Still do. This made bury myself into the internet and making money online.

So what I do now is create information products that I know will help people. Provide them solutions to problems.

So many out there are only interested in selling you their product/service. It should be about helping people and making an income from doing so. I aim for a win-win. Their happy and I’m happy.
