Karachi: Former test fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar said that I am not compatible to the legendary player, Waqar Younis but regretfully, I would have to say that neither was he a good captain, nor a good coach.
He said that both of we do not stand in comparison to each other in bowling capacity. ‘I stand low to him in every respect. Stating about the coaching capabilities of Waqar, he said as a coach, he would make the players practice very well before the match.
Shoaib said that as a captain, he couldn’t unite the team. Recalling the loss of semi final match held between the two arch rivals at Mohali, India and Pakistan, Shoaib said that Afridi wanted me to be part of the team. ‘But, Waqar Younis opposed to my selection’.
The fast bowling legend opined that Shahid Afridi needs to bring maturity in his talks. Often arriving at airport, he would fail to control his emotions, he said.
Clarifying the allegations leveled against him, the sports star said that neither he has bribed any journalist nor has he ever beaten any of the media men. However, he confessed to slapping a journalist once.
Supporting the cricketer cum politician Imran Khan, expressing his views, the ‘stylish super star’ said that under his captaincy, the cricket team can once again emerge as a competent one.
Shoaib said that inexperienced PCB chairpersons have had deteriorated the cricket planning. He said that one of the former PCB Chairmen had imposed restriction on him while the other had offered marriage proposal with one of the relatives.
He further stated that Brian Lara stands out as a good batsman. But, Inzamam-ul-Haq’s batting capacity is non-challengeable. In my 15 years of tenure, I had never been able to knock him out behind the net, said Shoaib, the legendary fast bowler of Pakistan cricket.
