Karachi: Khana Ghar is a project run by one of the journalist woman, Parveen Saeed in the metropolis aimed at providing meal to the needy people of the society. For past 23 years, the social worker has engaged herself in activity allowing hundreds of poor people to have proper meal in as low as Rs. 3 only.

The project was started in the Surjani Town, where the woman would take the cooked food and sell among the deprived people of the society. Last year, the project shifted to Khuda Ki Basti. On daily basis, as many as 300 people feed upon the food with the minimal payment. The comers are usually residents of Gulshan-e-Subhani Phase II and Vehari.

Parveen Saeed, the runner of the project expressed immense pleasure over the success and recognition of the project.  Briefing the media about her welfare work, she said that acknowledging her work, many people have joined support with her for the cause.

Explaining the reason behind Rs. 3 concept she said that she does not want the people to take food for granted, rather strive to get it for their families.

On Sunday, meat is dished for food while the menus vary from lentils to vegetables for the rest days of the week. Parveen said she looks forward to establishing further project in the poor localities of the city.

Parveen opined that government can also initiate such projects by investing the Zakat amounts deducted from salaries of the working classes each month. Billions of rupees collected can be utilized to impart the daily need of the deprived people, she stated.
