At ISE 2017 in Amsterdam, Classé announced an update to its Sigma SSP pre/pro that adds support for 4K UHD video as well as Dolby Atmos plus DTS:X immersive audio. The new model, called the Sigma SSP MKII, will sell for $6000 and owners of the Sigma SSP can purchase an upgrade to MKII capability for $1000.
The Sigma SSP MKII is an 8-channel device, so it can support 5.1.2 immersive audio speaker systems as well as traditional 7.1 surround-sound. Per Classé, the combination of a Texas Instruments DA830 DSP (a dual core floating-point audio processor with ARM9) and an audio-specific DA810 32/64-bit floating point DSP allow the unit to decode the latest audio formats as well as handle post-processing.
“Building on the outstanding value proposition that defined the original Sigma SSP, the MkII version brings a technology upgrade aimed squarely at raising the user’s experience to another level,” said Classé president Dave Nauber. “We are particularly pleased to support owners of the original Sigma SSP by offering an upgrade path that gives them every advantage of the latest model. A properly executed 5.1.2 system like this can envelope you in a true 3D experience.”
The new HDMI board brings HDMI 2.0 with HDCP 2.2 to the feature list, which allows the Sigma SSP MKII to handle 2160p 4K UHD video at 60 fps.
Sigma SSP owners interested in the upgrade will be glad to know that the installation can be performed in their own home or at their dealer, instead of having to ship the unit back to the factory.
Both the Sigma SSP MKII and the upgrade for the Sigma SSP will be available later this month.
